No, and the difference sits in whose main business it is. A carrier or a retailer runs a trade-in alongside the thing they actually sell, which is a new phone and a plan to go with it. Your handset is one line in that deal, and the value usually comes back as credit on a bill.

Buying used phones is the whole business here. That means the figure on this page has to stand up on its own against what the handset is worth secondhand, because there is no new phone alongside it to carry the deal. You are paid in money, by gift card, PayPal, bank transfer or check.

Use this page as a yardstick even if you sell somewhere else. Every price for this model is published on it, one for each capacity, carrier and grade. Nobody can quote a Pro properly without knowing which of the four capacities it is, so settle that first, then read our number for your exact phone and hold any other offer against it.

This one matters more on the 16 Pro than on any other iPhone 16. It's the only one Apple sold in four sizes. Storage sets your price, so picking the wrong tier changes the number we can pay.

Guessing goes wrong because your phone never shows you the round figure. It reports usable space instead, and that's always smaller than the name on the box. A 128GB phone reads as about 119GB. A 256GB reads near 238GB, a 512GB near 476GB, and a 1TB near 953GB.

Open Settings, tap General, then About. The Capacity line near the top is the one you want. Round it up to the nearest tier and that's your storage. Ignore the Available line underneath, which only tells you what's free today.

Stay on that screen for two more checks. The Model Number line confirms you have a 16 Pro and not a Pro Max. Scroll down to Parts and Service History as well.

If that section names the display, the battery or the camera as a part Apple can't verify, the phone grades Faulty. A replaced display does that on its own. We still buy the phone, so the honest answer costs you nothing extra. Quoting it as Good is what makes the number change when we check it.

Feel the frame first. The Pro band is titanium with a brushed finish. The 16 band is aluminum and shiny. Fingerprints wipe off the Pro band and cling to the 16.

Then count the rear cameras. The Pro has three in a triangle. The 16 has two in a vertical pill. The Pro screen is 6.3 inches and the 16 is 6.1.

They can. Grades on this phone are set by touch, not by squinting at it. Run a fingernail along each edge and around the corners.

If your nail catches heavy wear, that's Fair. If you can see marks but feel nothing, that's Average. Light wear you can't spot at arm's length is Good.

The brushed finish hides fine scratches under normal light. Tilt the phone under a lamp so the light runs along the edge, and they show up.

Yes. Any crack or chip grades the phone Faulty. That covers the screen, the back and the three lens covers. Faulty is a real price here, not a polite no. A battery under 80 percent grades Faulty too, and we buy those the same way.

No. A dead phone cannot be tested, so there is nothing to grade, and it cannot be wiped, so your data would arrive here with it. We will not buy on those terms.

Post it to us anyway if you would rather it left the house. Free recycling, or a free trip back to you, whichever you ask for.

That grades the phone Faulty. Check it in Settings, then Battery, then Battery Health and Charging. At 80 percent or above, the battery has no effect on your grade.

Sooner rather than later. Values drop hardest in the weeks after Apple launches a new iPhone. A new Pro arrives every September, so the clock is always running.

A drawer costs you too. The battery ages whether you use the phone or not. Once Maximum Capacity drops under 80 percent, the phone grades Faulty.

Those two percentages are not the same kind of figure, which is worth knowing before you do the arithmetic. PayPal's 2.99 percent is exact and it is the same every time. The gift card bonus is an average, because each brand sets its own, so read it as roughly three rather than exactly three.

One rule before you choose. A phone graded Brand New is paid by PayPal only. The other three are not offered on that grade.
