This is the model that made that question hard. Until 2024, a 13-inch iPad meant an iPad Pro. Apple didn't build the Air that big. Now the size tells you nothing, and sellers quote the wrong tablet all the time.

Start with the power button on the edge of the frame. On this Air the button reads your fingerprint, and Settings carries a Touch ID and Passcode line. A 13-inch iPad Pro has no fingerprint reader anywhere on it. It looks at your face instead.

Now turn the iPad over and read the small gray text under the word iPad. There's a model number in there starting with an A. A2898 and A2899 belong to this Air, and no other model shares them.

While it's face down, read that panel for a name or a message. Apple engraves those free at checkout, and plenty of gift buyers said yes. Any engraving grades the tablet Faulty, however clean the glass looks.

Fair is heavy wear you can feel, with no cracks and no chips. Run a fingernail across the back and around the corners. If it catches on a scuff or a dent, you're at Fair.

One crack moves the iPad to Faulty whatever the rest of it looks like. So does a chipped corner, which is where a 13-inch tablet usually takes the hit.

Yes. Any crack or chip grades it Faulty, front, back or camera cover. Faulty is a real price here, not a polite no. A worn battery works the same way, and we still buy the tablet.

That grades the iPad Faulty. Settings, then Battery, shows you the health figure on current software. Older software doesn't report one at all. With no figure there, go by how long a charge lasts.

Anything at 80 percent or above doesn't change your grade.

A WiFi + Cellular iPad Air 13-inch (M2) pays roughly $25 more than the WiFi model of the same size and grade, and on this tablet the storage tier barely moves that: a sealed one is $26 up at 128GB and $28 up at 1TB. Wear is what changes it. The gap narrows to $15 or $16 at Fair and to $5 or $6 at Faulty, so on a damaged tablet the antenna is worth very little. A Cellular 256GB in Good condition quotes at $396 today.

If you're not sure which you've got, check the back. Cellular models carry a smooth antenna panel across the top edge, and WiFi models don't. Settings, General, About lists a cellular data number on Cellular models only.

No. We don't purchase devices under financial obligations. That covers an iPad on an installment plan or a lease. Clear the balance and we'll quote it as normal.

No, and there are two separate checks behind that answer.

Activation Lock has to be off on every iPad we buy, WiFi or Cellular alike. You clear it by signing out of iCloud. We can't reset a tablet that's still signed in to your Apple Account. So we can't buy it.

The IMEI has to be clean too, and that check only reaches Cellular models. A WiFi iPad has no IMEI at all, so there's nothing to block. A Cellular iPad with a barred IMEI can't be bought. Same answer if it's reported lost or stolen, or blocked by a carrier.

Both checks run when your iPad arrives. Sign out of iCloud before you ship. If the tablet came off a plan, ask your carrier about the IMEI.

Keep them at home. We price the iPad on its own. Accessories add nothing to the quote, and we can't pay for them.
