A Galaxy S22 is worth between $15 and $102 today. The bottom of that range is a 128GB with cracked glass, the top is a 256GB still sealed in its box, and most of the phones we see land somewhere between the two. Every combination of size, network and wear has its own line in the table below.
A quick word about the word. Your carrier calls this a trade-in. We call it a Buyback, and the reason is not branding. A carrier sells airtime. A handset coming back over their counter is part of what it costs them to sign you up for another two years, so the number they put on it says more about what a subscriber is worth than about what your phone is worth. Used phones are the whole of our business. There is nothing else here. A four year old Galaxy S22 is not a rounding error on somebody's subscriber math, it is the actual product, and it gets priced like one.
What separates one row of that table from the next is mostly what your fingers find, not what your eyes do. Run a fingernail slowly across the back and along the sides. Marks you cannot feel are light wear. Marks that catch are heavy wear, which is Fair, and after four years in a pocket that is what most of these phones are. Cracks and chips are a separate question. Any of them, anywhere, including the glass rings around the cameras, makes the phone Faulty however well it works. Peel the screen protector off before you look, because a protector hides hairline cracks.
Samsung promised the Galaxy S22 four Android upgrades and five years of security updates when it launched in February 2022. Those five years run out in February 2027, and Samsung already moved this phone off monthly patches onto quarterly ones. So the support window is measured in months now, not years, and the price follows the support. That is also why the drawer is the competitor to beat. A phone sitting in one loses value every month, quietly, while you are not looking, and on this model the number is not going back up.
Four years is also long enough to matter to the screen. Every Galaxy S has an OLED panel, and burn-in grades a phone Faulty outright. The status bar across the top and the navigation bar across the bottom have been sitting in the same pixels since 2022, which is exactly how a ghost gets baked in. Turn the brightness up, put a plain white image on the whole screen, stand in a dim room and tilt the phone. A faint shadow of the clock or the buttons is burn-in. Nothing there is the answer you want, and it takes ten seconds to find out.
Unlocked handsets pay the most here at every grade and both sizes, and the gap is not small on this model. Search your settings for Network lock or SIM lock before you pick, and if you are locked, pick the network you actually pay a bill to. Do the white screen check before you choose, because burn-in means Faulty and it is the fault most likely to be sitting on a four year old panel. For the carrier, search your settings for Network lock or SIM lock. Unlocked means pick Unlocked. Otherwise pick the network you pay. The Buyback price you accept is held for 14 days.
We email a prepaid USPS label. Before you box it, take your Google account off the phone, turn Find My Mobile off, remove your Samsung account and then erase it. That order matters. Take the SIM card out and leave the empty tray in place. The charger, the cable, the case and the box all stay with you, because none of them change the quote.

Honest answer: the numbers are small. The whole grid on this page runs from $15 at the bottom to $102 at the top, and most phones land somewhere in the middle.
But a phone in a drawer earns nothing and keeps getting cheaper, and this one is running out of software support, so the number is not going up again. Postage costs you nothing either way. If yours is too far gone to carry a price at all, recycling is free and we wipe it regardless. Both of those beat leaving it where it is.
Samsung committed to four Android upgrades and five years of security updates when the Galaxy S22 launched in February 2022, which puts the last security patches in early 2027. Samsung has already moved the S22 family from monthly updates to quarterly ones, which is what usually happens in a phone's final year. None of that changes how we grade the phone. A Galaxy S22 on old software quotes exactly the same as one fully up to date, and you do not need to install anything before you sell. It is only worth knowing because it explains where the price comes from.
Burn-in makes a Galaxy S22 Faulty. This is the fault most worth checking on a phone this age, because an OLED panel that has shown the same status bar and the same navigation bar for four years is exactly the panel that develops a ghost. Brightness all the way up, a plain white image filling the screen, a dim room, then tilt it and look across the surface at an angle. A shadow of the clock, of the icons along the top, or of the three navigation buttons along the bottom is burn-in. They look identical, because they are the same phone in two sizes with the same three cameras. The Galaxy S22 is the small one: 6.1 inches against 6.6, and 167 grams against 196, which is obvious the moment you hold both. It also charges slower, topping out at 25W where the Plus takes 45W. The model number settles it, in Settings, About phone. SM-S901U or SM-S901U1 is a Galaxy S22. SM-S906U or SM-S906U1 is the Galaxy S22 Plus, which has its own page. If yours reports 512GB or 1TB it is neither, because Samsung sold those capacities only on the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
SM-S901U is the US carrier version and SM-S901U1 is the US unlocked version, sold by Samsung and by retailers. Both are a Galaxy S22, both are quoted here, and the model number alone does not fix your carrier price, so still check Network lock in your settings. Anything not starting SM-S901 is a different phone. SM-S911 is the Galaxy S23, which is the year Samsung dropped the raised camera housing and stood each lens on its own ring.
No. A trade-in happens at the carrier counter, against a new phone, and it comes back to you as credit spread over a two or three year agreement. Leave early and the rest of it evaporates. A Buyback is a purchase with nothing attached: we buy your Galaxy S22, you pick a gift card, PayPal, a bank transfer or a check, and you walk away owing nobody anything. On an older phone like this one the two numbers are often closer than you expect, so it is worth checking both.
Yes, at the Faulty price. Any crack or chip puts a Galaxy S22 in Faulty no matter how well it works, and that means the front glass, the back glass and the glass rings around the three cameras. This phone is glass on both sides, so turn it over and check the back under a lamp before you decide. Peel any screen protector off first, because a protector hides hairline cracks. Faulty pays $15 at 128GB and $17 at 256GB. Small, but real, and the price does not change when the phone gets here.
There is not. No Samsung phone is graded on a battery percentage here, so there is no 80 percent threshold, no number to reach, and no battery health screen to go looking for. People arrive expecting one because that is how iPhones are graded. It does not apply to this phone.
The only way a battery touches your grade is by failing. Any functionality issue at all makes a Galaxy S22 Faulty, so a phone that cuts out with charge still showing, or that only stays alive plugged in, or that will not charge, is Faulty for that reason. A four year old 3700mAh battery that no longer reaches bedtime is normal wear and costs you nothing.
Then it is Faulty, and this is where the Samsung rule differs from the Apple one. There is no checklist of parts that matter, because all of them matter: if something on the phone does not work, the phone is Faulty. Spend five minutes on it. Ring the phone and listen on the earpiece and the loudspeaker. Record a voice memo and play it back. Press power and both volume keys. Type in each corner of the screen. Plug the cable in. Switch the camera between 0.5x, 1x and 3x and watch the view actually change. It does, and unlocked pays most at every grade and both sizes here, with nothing running the other way. A Good 128GB is $77 unlocked, $67 on AT&T, $57 on T-Mobile, $43 on Verizon and $39 on anything else. On a phone at this price level those are big proportions, so it is worth checking. Search your settings for Network lock or SIM lock. If we test the phone and find it unlocked when you quoted a carrier, we put your offer up ourselves.
No, that one we have to decline. A dead phone cannot be tested and your data cannot be cleared off it, and we will not pay for something we cannot check. Free recycling is the alternative, on a free label, with the data destroyed to DoD standards. Say the word and we send it back to you instead, also free.
Not while money is still owed on it. A Galaxy S22 on a carrier installment plan or a lease is under a financial obligation, and we do not purchase devices under financial obligations. Pay the balance off, own the phone, and it quotes normally after that.
Not while any of the three is in place, and they are three separate things.
Google FRP. Remove your Google account from the phone, then factory reset. Reset first and the lock outlives the wipe, stranding the next owner on the setup screen.
Samsung reactivation lock. Find My Mobile off, Samsung account removed.
IMEI and Knox. An IMEI that has been reported lost or stolen, blocked by a carrier or left with an unpaid balance fails our check. Knox is separate and permanent: the counter trips the first time a phone is rooted or flashed with custom software, Secure Folder and Samsung Wallet stop working, and there is no way back.
