The top of that range is a tie, which surprises people. Flawless pays exactly what Brand New pays on this model, at 256GB and at 512GB. Of the two, Flawless is the better row to be in: a sealed Brand New phone can only be paid through PayPal, while a Flawless one can be paid four different ways, and the gift card runs about 3 percent ahead of the rest.
Worth pausing on how that number is quoted, because it is most of the difference between a Buyback and what a carrier will offer you. A carrier leads with one big figure and the words up to in front of it, and the phone that earns it is rarer than the headline suggests. There is no up to number on this page. There is a floor, a ceiling, and every step between them printed in the table below, so you can find your own line and then decide. We are buying this Galaxy S23 Plus rather than discounting a new one, so the number has to survive being looked at.
After three years in a pocket most of these honestly sit at Average, which means light wear you can see in the right light but cannot feel with a fingernail. Before you settle on any grade though, there is one check worth doing on this phone, and it takes two minutes.
The Galaxy S23 Plus has an OLED screen. Every Galaxy S does. OLED means each pixel makes its own light, and a pixel that has shown the same thing for three years dims a little faster than the ones around it. Leave that long enough and the shape stays behind as a permanent shadow. That is burn-in, and burn-in grades Faulty on its own, no matter how clean the rest of the phone is.
On a 2023 phone this is a live risk rather than a textbook one. Three things sit still on this screen for hours a day: the always-on clock, the row of icons in the status bar, and the navigation bar across the bottom. Those are the three shapes to go looking for.
Here is the test. Turn the brightness up to full. Open a plain white image and make it fill the screen. Take the phone somewhere dim and tilt it slowly through the light. Then do the same with a mid gray image, which shows uneven wear sooner than white does. You are looking for a faint ghost that stays in one spot on the glass while the picture behind it moves. Look hardest along the very top and the very bottom of the screen, because that is where the clock and the navigation bar live.
If you would rather have the phone check itself, Samsung ships a tool for it. Open the Samsung Members app, tap Support, then tap View tests. It needs your Samsung account and it walks the phone through its hardware. Either way, if you find a ghost, quote Faulty. The table below shows what Faulty pays at each size, and it sits a long way under the row you would otherwise have been in. Better to know now than to find out at the bench.
Two things that are not burn-in, before you talk yourself down a grade. A single dead dot that never changes color is a stuck pixel, which is a fault of its own but not this one. And a slight color shift when you look at the screen from a steep angle is how every OLED behaves, on a brand new phone as much as this one.
Nothing else has to come with it. This is not an Ultra, so there is no S Pen to lose, and Samsung did not put a wall charger in the box anyway. Send the phone on its own. Keep the cable, the case and the adapter. If yours does have a pen slot in the bottom edge you are on the wrong page and want the Galaxy S23 Ultra, where that pen is worth real money.

We send a prepaid USPS label. Take your Google account and Samsung account off the phone, then factory reset it, then pull the SIM card out. Wrap the phone and nothing else. A cable or a case in the box does not raise the price by a cent and gives the parcel something to rattle against.
A person looks at your phone within 48 hours of it arriving, and we tell you what we found. Match the description and the money leaves the same day, by gift card, PayPal, bank transfer or check. Every phone gets a Department of Defense grade wipe here whether we buy it or recycle it.

GALAXY S23 PLUS BUYBACK QUESTIONS
Four things decide it: size, carrier, wear, and whether the screen is clean. A 256GB unlocked in Good condition is $150. The same phone at Fair, meaning wear you can feel with a fingernail but no cracks, is $90. A 512GB with burn-in or a crack is $32. The quote box at the top of the page gives you the exact figure for yours.
Full brightness, a plain white image filling the screen, and a dim room. Tilt the phone slowly so the light rakes across it. Then repeat with a mid gray image, because uneven wear shows up against gray before it shows against white.
You are hunting for a faint ghost that stays put on the glass while the picture underneath moves. Give the top strip and the bottom strip the most attention. That is where the clock, the status icons and the navigation bar have been sitting still for three years, and those are almost always the first shapes to burn in.
Samsung also builds a checker into the phone. Open Samsung Members, tap Support, then View tests. You will need to be signed into your Samsung account.
Burn-in grades Faulty. It is permanent, it cannot be repaired without a new panel, and it does not matter that everything else about the phone is perfect. If you find one, pick Faulty and take the $32 on a 512GB or $30 on a 256GB. Two things that are not burn-in: a single dot stuck on one color, which is a different fault, and the slight color shift you get looking at any OLED from a sharp angle, which is normal on every one of them.
They look identical, because they are: same three rear lenses, same chip, same glass, same colors. Only the size gives it away. The Plus is 6.6 inches and 6.91 ounces, the Galaxy S23 is 6.1 inches and 5.93 ounces. Held side by side it is obvious. On its own it is not.
So read it instead. Settings, About phone. SM-S916U or SM-S916U1 is the Plus and belongs here. SM-S911U is the standard S23. There is a shortcut too: Samsung never made a 128GB Plus. If your storage says 128GB, you are holding an S23, not an S23 Plus.
No, none of it. Accessories are not part of the quote on this phone, and Samsung did not even put a wall charger in the box when it was new. Send the phone by itself. Keep the cable for your next one. The Ultra is the exception in this family, because its S Pen counts as part of the phone, but a Galaxy S23 Plus is complete on its own.
Yes, and there is a real number attached: $30 for a 256GB, $32 for a 512GB.
Any crack or chip means Faulty. Front glass, back glass, or the little cover over one of the lenses, it makes no difference which. The phone working perfectly makes no difference either. Choose Faulty at the quote step and the price you were shown is the price you get.
It does, and it is worth understanding the rule rather than memorizing a list. On Samsung phones, anything that does not work properly makes the phone Faulty. That is it. There is no partial credit for a small fault.
The crackling speaker does it. So would a mic that nobody can hear you on, a fingerprint reader that stopped recognizing your thumb, a camera that will not focus, wireless charging that does nothing, or a charging port that only holds the cable at one angle. Grade it Faulty, take the Faulty price, and there is no unpleasant conversation later.
No. We do not grade Samsung phones on a battery percentage, we do not ask for a number, and there is no battery health screen you need to go looking for. A three year old 4,700 mAh battery that no longer makes it to bedtime is just a three year old battery and it costs you nothing. The only time the battery matters is if it has genuinely failed, and at that point it is caught by the same rule as any other broken part.
That is the one we have to turn down. If the phone will not power up we cannot test it, and neither of us can clear your data off it, so we will not put a number on it. Try a different cable and a wall socket, and give it a full hour before you decide. If it is truly dead, put it on the same free label and we will recycle it at no cost, DoD wipe included, or post it back to you free. Your choice, either way it costs you nothing.
Not until it is settled. A phone with monthly payments still running on it, or one on a lease, is under a financial obligation, and we do not purchase those. Ring your carrier for the payoff amount, clear it, and the phone quotes here like any other. It is worth doing the math first, because the payoff on a 2023 phone is sometimes more than the phone is worth.
No to both, and there is a third one people forget about.
Factory Reset Protection, the Google account lock, has to be cleared. Take your Google account and your Samsung account off the phone in Settings before you reset it, not after. Reset first and the lock stays on, and a locked phone has to come back to you.
Knox has to be untripped. Rooting the phone or flashing unofficial software trips a counter inside it, that counter cannot be put back, and a tripped one means no purchase at any grade.
And the IMEI has to be clear. Lost, stolen or carrier blocked all fail that check. Dial star hash zero six hash to see your IMEI in a second.
It changes it more than the storage size does. A 512GB in Good condition is $160 unlocked, $122 on AT&T, $115 on Verizon and $99 on T-Mobile.
The table on this page is the unlocked column, so switch the quote if yours is locked. If the phone is fully paid for, carriers will unlock it for free on request. On this model that is a sixty dollar phone call.
It does not. Phantom Black, Cream, Green, Lavender and the extra shades Samsung only sold on its own website are all worth exactly the same. Color has never moved a Buyback price here, on this phone or any other.
Do the sum both ways before you commit, because a trade-in and a Buyback are not the same product.
A carrier or Samsung trade-in usually pays in credit. Sometimes that is money off a new phone at the till, more often it is a discount applied to your bill in small pieces over 24 or 36 months, and it only keeps arriving while you stay on that plan. A Buyback is a straight purchase. We buy the Galaxy S23 Plus, the money is cash, and it is not attached to anything you buy next.
If you were staying on that plan and buying that phone anyway, the trade-in credit can win. If you might switch networks, or you just want the money, it usually does not.
Order matters. First, Settings, then Accounts and backup, then Manage accounts, and remove both your Google account and your Samsung account. Only then go to Settings, General management, Reset, Factory data reset. Doing it the other way round leaves the Google account lock armed and the phone unsellable until you unlock it. Back up anything you want to keep first, then take the SIM out and delete any eSIM. Your photos, messages and saved passwords are erased and they cannot be recovered. We wipe the phone again to Department of Defense standards the day it lands.
Choose when you check out. A gift card comes by email and works out about 3 percent ahead of the others, because the brands add a bonus to it. PayPal is the fast one, instant, with PayPal taking their 2.99 percent. A bank transfer lands in 2 to 4 days and a check in 3 to 5. Whichever you pick, it goes out the day your phone clears inspection. Only a sealed Brand New phone is restricted, and that one has to be PayPal.
