Start at the top of that range, because it is not where most people expect. Flawless pays exactly the same here as Brand New, at both capacities. And because a sealed Brand New phone can only be paid through PayPal, while Flawless can be paid four different ways, a Flawless phone taken as a gift card actually lands about 3 percent ahead of a sealed one. There is no reason to go hunting for the original box.
A note on the word, since this page avoids the one you probably typed to get here. That word belongs to the carriers and it describes their deal, which ends with you holding a newer phone and a slightly smaller bill. This one ends with you holding money. Samsung changed the design on this phone and said so plainly at the launch: "The contour housing has been removed." On the S22 the three rear lenses sat inside one raised block that ran into the frame. On the S23 that block is gone. Each lens stands on its own little ring, straight out of the bare back glass.
It looks cleaner. It is also worse in a fall. Set your S23 face up on a hard table and press gently on the opposite corner. It pivots, because those three rings are now the highest points on the back of the phone and the whole weight of it goes through them. That is exactly what meets the floor.
So this is the check. Good light, phone in your palm, look along the back at a shallow angle so the three rings stand up as silhouettes. Then run a fingertip slowly around the base of each one, where the metal ring meets the glass. A chip catches. A scuff in the coating does not. Any chip in that glass, in a lens cover or in the back panel itself, grades Faulty. Not a grade down, straight to Faulty, from wherever else you would have landed to the bottom row of the table below. The check takes about thirty seconds.
The rings are also how you know which phone you have. Three separate lenses with no block around them means an S23 or something newer. One raised camera island blended into the metal means a Galaxy S22, which is a different phone at a different price. If it has the same bare lenses but feels bigger in the hand, you are probably holding the Galaxy S23 Plus, and if there is a pen in the bottom edge it is the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
One more thing before you quote. Capacity, carrier and condition. A 128GB unlocked in Good condition is $105. A 256GB in Average, meaning light wear you can see but not feel, is $113. A 128GB with a cracked back is $21. The quote box at the top gives you the exact number for your combination.
Color plays no part in it. Phantom Black, Cream, Green, Lavender and the shades Samsung only sold on its own website all pay the same.
Because at this age the box stops mattering. Both grades come out at $145 for a 256GB and $125 for a 128GB.
Given the choice, take Flawless. Brand New means genuinely sealed and never activated, and it is the one grade we can only pay through PayPal, which charges 2.99 percent. Flawless can be paid by gift card, which runs about 3 percent ahead of the other methods. Same phone, same price on the page, a few dollars more in your pocket.
Flawless does mean no marks at all, though. Not almost none. If a fingernail finds anything, you are in Good or below, and it is better to say so now than to have us say it later.
Look at the back first. Three lenses standing separately out of the glass means a Galaxy S23 or something newer. Three lenses sitting inside one raised block that flows into the metal frame means a Galaxy S22, which is an older phone with its own prices. If the lenses are separate but the phone feels large, check the size: this one is 6.1 inches and 5.93 ounces, while the Galaxy S23 Plus is 6.6 inches and 6.91 ounces. A pen tucked into the bottom edge means the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Yes. Cracked grades Faulty and Faulty has a price: $21 at 128GB, $25 at 256GB.
It makes no difference that the phone still works, still takes photos and still holds a charge. Glass is glass. Select Faulty when you quote and that is the figure that gets paid, with no surprises when the box is opened here.
It does, and this is the most commonly missed fault on a Galaxy S23. A chip is a chip whether it is in the middle of the screen or in the ring of glass around a lens, and any chip means Faulty.
Check properly before you decide. Hold the phone under a lamp and look along the back at a low angle, so the three rings show up as outlines. Run a fingertip round the base of each one. Something that catches your finger is a chip. Something you can only see, not feel, is surface wear and does not force Faulty on its own. The difference on a 256GB is $125 against $25, which is why we would rather you looked twice than guessed.
It grades Faulty. This screen is OLED, like every Galaxy S screen, and OLED pixels that have held the same shape for three years fade unevenly and leave a permanent ghost of it. On a 2023 phone that is worth actually checking rather than assuming. Quick version: full brightness, a plain white image, a dim room, and tilt the phone. A faint shape that stays still while the picture moves is burn-in. It does. The rule on Samsung phones is broader than people expect and it is easier to hold as a principle: if any part of the phone does not work, the phone is Faulty. Not marked down a grade. Faulty.
So a fingerprint reader that no longer knows your thumb does it. So does a silent earpiece, a camera that will not focus, a volume rocker that has gone mushy, a charging port that has to be held at an angle, or a dead pixel. There is no short list to memorize. If it does not work, it is Faulty, and Faulty still pays.
No, and this is where people carry an iPhone habit across by mistake. There is no 80 percent rule on Samsung phones here. We do not ask for a battery percentage and there is no battery health screen you need to find. A 3,900 mAh battery that ran a full day in 2023 and runs most of one now is completely normal and costs you nothing. Only a battery that has actually failed counts, and that is caught by the same rule as any other broken part.
That one we cannot buy. A phone with no power cannot be tested, and your data cannot be cleared off it by you or by us, so any price we put on it would be a guess. Before you give up on it, leave it on a known good cable in a wall socket for an hour, not a laptop port. If it really is dead, use the same free label and we will recycle it at no charge with a DoD wipe first, or send it straight back to you, also free.
Not until the balance is gone. A phone still on monthly installments or a lease counts as being under a financial obligation, and we do not purchase those. Get the payoff figure from your carrier, settle it, and the phone quotes normally. It also unlocks the carrier lock at the same time, which is worth real money on this model.
No, and there are three things being asked about there.
The Google account lock, Factory Reset Protection, must be off. Remove your Google account and your Samsung account in Settings before the factory reset, never after. Do it in the wrong order and the lock survives the wipe.
Knox must be untripped. Rooting or flashing unofficial software trips a counter that cannot be untripped, and that rules the phone out at every grade.
The IMEI must be clean, so no lost or stolen report and no carrier block. Dial star hash zero six hash to see it. Any of those three and the phone comes back to you unpaid, which is a wasted week for both of us.

This table is the unlocked column, so change the carrier in the quote box if that is not you. If the phone is paid off, your carrier will unlock it free, usually within a day or two. On a Galaxy S23 that is worth about thirty dollars.
Run both numbers, they are not the same kind of money. A trade-in from a carrier or from Samsung normally comes back as credit, and the big headline figures usually mean bill credit paid out in small monthly pieces over two or three years, which stops the moment you leave that plan.
