Most ways of handing a phone on assume you are about to buy its replacement, and that assumption breaks here. There is no replacement. Apple stopped making 5.4 inch phones, so anyone selling a 13 mini is not upgrading, they are giving up a size for good. That is why this page spends its space on who still wants one rather than on what you might buy next. The 13 mini is the last small iPhone Apple built. Nothing since has been 5.4 inches. The mini slot in the lineup became the Plus a year later, and the small phone never came back.
That is why the mini holds its price better than a 2021 phone has any right to. The people who want one really want one, and there are only two of them in the world to want. It is a short supply of a thing nobody is making more of.
The small body has one cost, and on most minis it moves the grade further than any scratch does. A 5.4 inch phone holds the smallest battery Apple has put in a modern iPhone. The same day's use drains a larger share of it, which means more charges, which means the battery ages faster than the same-age iPhone 13 sitting next to it. Two phones bought the same week can be years apart on paper.
So check it before you pick a grade. Settings, then Battery, then Battery Health and Charging, and read Maximum Capacity. Under 80 percent grades the phone Faulty, and so does a message on that screen telling you to service the battery. At 80 or above the battery does not touch your grade at all. Faulty still pays, so this is about getting the Buyback price right the first time rather than talking you out of selling.

Storage, carrier, grade. Look at Maximum Capacity before you answer the grade question, because on a mini that reading moves more prices than scratches do. Accept the Buyback price and it is locked for the next 14 days.
Your prepaid USPS label arrives by email. Wipe the phone, wrap it so the screen has something soft either side of it, and hand it in at the counter. Nothing to pay going out, and nothing to pay if you want it back.
Somebody puts your mini on a bench inside 48 hours of delivery. If it is what you described, the payment goes out that day by gift card, PayPal, bank transfer or check. If the battery reads lower than expected, or the screen has been changed, we say so and show you the revised number before anything else happens.

If the phone will not switch on, the lenses decide it. On the 13 mini the two rear cameras sit on a diagonal. On the 12 mini they are stacked one directly above the other. Both are an iPhone 13 mini and both quote here. A2481 is the US model. A2628 is the general international one. A2626 covers Canada, Japan, Mexico and Saudi Arabia, A2629 is mainland China, and A2630 covers Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia. Because the battery is smaller and the phone works it harder. Apple counts battery wear in cycles, and a cycle is a full battery's worth of power rather than one visit to a charger. A small battery completes a cycle sooner, so a mini gets through cycles faster than a Pro Max doing exactly the same job.
The practical version: two phones bought the same week, used the same way, and the mini is the one closer to the 80 percent line. It is not a fault in the phone. It is arithmetic.
Then it grades Faulty, and we still buy it. Same answer for a service battery warning on that screen. Find it under Settings, Battery, Battery Health and Charging. Anything from 80 percent upward leaves your grade alone. Worth reading before you price it, because on a mini it is the single most common reason a number changes at inspection.
The carrier does move the number, and on the mini it moves it in one direction only. Unlocked pays the most at every grade and every capacity, checked cell by cell. AT&T and T-Mobile sit level with each other underneath it, and Verizon is well below both, far enough that on a 128GB the Other option edges above it. Do not carry any of that across to another model. The order and the size of the gaps are set separately on every phone we buy, so check the one in front of you rather than the rule you remember from the iPhone 13 or anywhere else.
The comparison people really want is against the carrier's own offer. A trade-in there pays you in bill credit, usually drip fed across 24 or 36 months and tied to a plan you keep. A Buyback pays once, in money, and then it is finished. On a small phone that is still in demand, that difference tends to be larger than people expect, so it is worth putting both numbers side by side.
Yes. Cracks and chips grade the phone Faulty, wherever they are: the front glass, the back, or the covers over the lenses. There is a real number against Faulty, $41 at 128GB and $56 at 512GB. Nobody is going to argue with you about whether a hairline counts. If you can find it, grade it Faulty.
Good is wear you cannot pick out from arm's length. Average is wear you can see close up but cannot feel when you run a fingernail across it. Fair is when the fingernail catches.
All three assume unbroken glass and a working phone. One crack anywhere sends it to Faulty no matter how tidy the rest of it looks, and so does a screen somebody has replaced.
Not for cash. We cannot test a phone that will not start, and we cannot clear your data off it either, which is the part that matters most. Give it half an hour on a wall charger before you decide, because a deeply flat battery and a dead phone look identical. If it stays dark, post it in anyway. We will recycle it at no charge or send it home at no charge, whichever you ask for, and it gets wiped either way.
No, not while there is a balance on it. A phone on carrier installments or a lease counts as a device under a financial obligation and we cannot take those. Finish the payments, then bring it back here and it prices like anything else.
No. Every grade, Faulty included, needs a clean ESN behind it. That rules out anything reported lost or stolen, anything a carrier has blocked, and anything still tied to an Apple Account. The last one is on you to fix and takes two minutes: sign out in Settings before the phone goes in the box, or the whole thing stalls at our door.
Only if you are pricing it as Brand New, which means sealed and never activated with everything Apple packed inside. Every other grade is priced on the phone by itself. Keep the cable, keep the box, and put the mini in on its own.
Back it up to iCloud or a computer while you still have it in your hand. Then sign out of your Apple Account, which is what releases Find My, and run Erase All Content and Settings.
