A Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G pays somewhere between $18 and $130 today, and the table below shows every step in between. That is not a lot for a phone that cost well over a thousand dollars new, and we are not going to dress that up. It is still real money for something that has been living in a drawer since 2020, and the quote takes about a minute.
The word people search for is trade-in. What happens here is a Buyback, and the difference is not really the word. A carrier hands you a number across a counter and gives you about four seconds to take it. We are slower than that on purpose. Someone here opens the box, puts your phone under a lamp, checks it by hand and writes down what they found. If it is worse than you described it, we tell you what we found, and you can have the phone back free rather than argue about it. That is why our first number is usually the one that survives.
Before you pick a grade, be sure this is the phone you are holding. The Ultra is worth the most of the four, so this is worth thirty seconds.
Open the camera and zoom in as far as the phone will go. A Galaxy S20 or a Galaxy S20+ stops at 30x. Samsung's own figures for those two are 3x hybrid optical zoom and 30x Super Resolution Digital Zoom. The Ultra is the one with the periscope telephoto behind that tall camera housing, and Samsung rates it at 10x hybrid optical and 100x. If the slider keeps climbing past 30x and lands on 100x, you have an S20 Ultra.
Now the same test decides money instead of names.
If the phone is an Ultra and it will not go past 30x, or the picture at 10x comes up black or will not settle while 1x looks fine, the telephoto has failed. That drops the phone to Faulty. Samsung grading here does not work off a list of named faults the way the Apple pages do. The rule is shorter and it bites harder: if something on the phone does not work, the phone is Faulty. A dead telephoto counts the same as a dead volume key. It is also the one part of this phone almost nobody tests, so spend the ten seconds now rather than find out at inspection.
Two more tells if the camera app is not cooperating. Count the circles on the back: the Ultra and the S20+ both carry four, the fourth being Samsung's DepthVision camera, while the plain Galaxy S20 5G has three. And 512GB only ever came on the Ultra, so a 512GB reading in Settings, About phone settles it on its own.
Every price in the table below is for an unlocked phone, and unlocked pays the most here by a wide margin. The distance between unlocked and a carrier locked handset on this model is wider than the distance between two rows of the table, so pick your real network in the quote box rather than guessing.

We email a prepaid USPS label. Sign out of your Google account so the phone is not locked when it arrives, erase it, and box it with something soft around the camera housing since that is the tallest part of the phone. Keep the charger and the case. We cannot pay for them.
Your phone clears inspection within 48 hours of arriving. If it matches what you told us, the money leaves the same day by gift card, PayPal, bank transfer or check. Every device gets a Department of Defense grade wipe, whether we buy it or recycle it.

GALAXY S20 ULTRA 5G BUYBACK QUESTIONS
Storage, network and wear decide it. A 512GB in Good condition is $110, the same phone in Average is $97, and a 128GB with a crack in it still pays $18. Use the quote box at the top of this page for your exact one.
Zoom in with the camera. The S20+ stops at 30x and the Ultra carries on to 100x. The Ultra is also the bigger phone, 6.9 inches against 6.7, and it is the heavy one at 220g. Both have four circles on the back, so counting cameras separates them from the plain S20 but not from each other. If it turns out you have the other one, the Galaxy S20+ 5G has its own quote box and its own prices.
One of two things. Either the phone is not an Ultra, which the model number will tell you in five seconds, or the telephoto camera has stopped working. A camera that does not work makes the phone Faulty. We are not looking for a named fault from a list here, the way the iPhone rules work. On a Samsung the question is whether everything on the phone still does its job, and a lens that will not engage does not.
Yes. A crack or a chip anywhere on the glass moves it to Faulty, and that holds even when the phone works perfectly, so a hairline in the corner counts. Faulty is a price rather than a refusal: $22 at 512GB, $20 at 256GB and $18 at 128GB. Choose Faulty in the quote box and nothing changes when it reaches us.
Burn-in makes the phone Faulty. Every Galaxy S has an OLED panel and OLED is what burns, so on a six year old phone this is worth checking rather than assuming. Turn the brightness right up, put a plain white image on the screen in a dim room and tilt it. A faint clock across the top or a ghost of the navigation bar along the bottom is burn-in. Not on its own, and there is no percentage involved. Samsung phones have no battery health rule here at all, so do not go hunting for a screen that shows one. A battery that has aged the way six year old batteries do is normal wear. The only way the battery touches your grade is if it has genuinely stopped working, in which case the phone is Faulty like anything else that does not work.
A lot, on this phone. Unlocked pays the most at every grade and every size. A Good 512GB is $110 unlocked against $95 on AT&T, $90 on T-Mobile and $41 on Verizon. A carrier locked Ultra still sells and we still buy it, but say which network it is on rather than clicking unlocked and hoping.
Not for money. A phone that will not power on cannot be tested and your data cannot be cleared off it, and those two things together are why we do not buy it. We will take it for free recycling instead, wipe it to Department of Defense standards on arrival, and cover the postage. If you would rather keep it, we will mail it back to you free.
Not while payments are running. A phone on a carrier installment plan or a lease is under a financial obligation and those are not ones we can purchase. Clear the balance and it quotes like any other Ultra.
Any of those three and we cannot buy the phone at any grade. A Google account lock or an FRP lock has to be cleared by signing out of the account before you send it. A blacklisted, lost, stolen or carrier blocked IMEI cannot be cleared by us at all. A tripped Knox counter is permanent and we do not purchase those. None of the three is a grading question, they all sit before grading.

Compare the shape of the offer, not only the number. A carrier deal is usually bill credit, spread across 24 or 36 months, and it stops if you leave. A Buyback is a purchase, so the money is yours the day the phone clears inspection and nothing about it depends on your plan. Get both figures and read the small print on theirs.
No. Cosmic Gray and Cosmic Black pay the same, and so does anything you bought abroad in another finish. Color is the one thing about the phone that has no effect on the quote.

Sign out of your Google account first, then do a factory reset from Settings.
