SELL YOUR PIXEL 9
A Pixel 9 is worth from $46 to $299. Where in that range yours falls comes down to storage and to wear, and wear is where most people guess wrong. A carrier calls this a trade-in. We call it a Buyback, because we are buying the phone rather than discounting your next one.
Two years in a pocket does not usually crack a Pixel 9. It scuffs the aluminum rails and the edges of the camera bar, and that is exactly where the money moves. Light wear you can see but not feel is one grade. Wear you can feel is the grade below. Most people look, decide it is fine, and pick the higher one.
So do not look. Close your eyes and run a fingernail slowly along all four rails, then along the top and bottom edges of the camera bar, then across the back. If the nail glides over everything, the honest grade is Average. If it drops into anything, even once, it is Fair. Feeling beats looking, because a scratch you cannot see with the phone in your hand is still there under the lamp on our bench.
That one grade is worth roughly a third of what the phone pays, so it is the biggest thing on this page you control. We would rather you spent thirty seconds on it now than had the grade changed after the phone arrives, which is the part everybody dreads about mailing something valuable to a stranger. The exact figures for both grades are in the table.
Cracks are a separate question with a shorter answer. Any crack or chip in the front glass, the back glass or the glass over the camera bar is Faulty, no matter how well the phone works. Screen burn-in is Faulty. So is anything on the phone that has stopped working, because the rule across every Android phone we buy is a principle rather than a checklist: if something does not work, the phone is Faulty.
One thing you do not need to check is the battery. There is no 80 percent rule on a Pixel, no percentage anybody asks for and no battery health screen to go and find. We buy used Pixel 9s and broken Pixel 9s, we pay for the shipping in both directions, and unlocked handsets get the best price here.

HOW A BUYBACK WORKS
128GB or 256GB, your carrier, then the grade. Do the fingernail lap of the rails before you pick, because that one test is worth more than everything else on this form. The price you accept is held for 14 days.
A prepaid USPS label arrives by email. Remove the Google account, factory reset the phone, take out the SIM and box the handset on its own. Chargers and cases are not priced in and they rattle, which is how a phone leaves in one condition and lands in another.
Your Pixel 9 is inspected by a person here within 48 hours of arriving, and we email you what we found rather than quietly adjusting anything. If it matches, the money goes out that day by gift card, PayPal, bank transfer or check. Every phone is wiped to Department of Defense standard whether we buy it or recycle it.

QUESTIONS
A 256GB with wear you can feel pays $150, and the 128GB pays $138. That is the Fair grade, and it is where a phone lands after a couple of years without a case. Keep it to marks you can only see and the 256GB is $218 instead.
A fingernail. Average is light wear that your nail passes over without catching. Fair is heavier wear that it drops into, and there can be plenty of it as long as nothing is cracked or chipped. Nobody grades this honestly by eye, which is why we describe the test rather than the result. On a 128GB the difference is $200 against $138.
Count the lenses. A Pixel 9 has two in the camera bar, a Pixel 9 Pro has three. The bodies are the same size and weight, so that is genuinely the only difference you can see. Storage is a second check, since the Pixel 9 was only ever sold in 128GB and 256GB. The Pro pays more, and it has its own numbers on our Pixel 9 Pro page.
Look at the back from the side. A Pixel 9 has the raised camera bar running right across it, so the phone rocks when you put it face up on a table. The 9a is flat, with the cameras almost flush, and it sits still. Settings, About phone, Model reads G2YBB on a US Pixel 9 and GXQ96 on a US Pixel 9a. On this model, yes, which is not true across the whole Pixel 9 range. A sealed, never activated 256GB with everything in the box pays $299, against $278 for one that is opened but unmarked. Worth knowing before you break the seal to have a look. Brand New is the one grade we can only pay by PayPal, and PayPal charges 2.99 percent, so the gap narrows a little in practice.
Yes. Any crack or chip anywhere in the glass makes it Faulty, and a Faulty 256GB is $50. That covers the front, the back and the little windows over both cameras, and it applies even if the phone is otherwise perfect. Take the screen protector off before you judge it, because that is where hairline cracks hide.
That is Faulty as well. A Pixel 9 has an OLED panel, and OLED can hold a permanent ghost of whatever sat still on it, usually the status bar or the navigation bar. Not at all. There is no battery rule on any Android phone we buy: no 80 percent line, no reading to send us, nothing hidden in the settings to hunt down. Sell it with whatever battery life it has. The only exception is a battery that has stopped doing its job entirely, and that is covered by the rule about things that do not work rather than by a percentage.
Not for money. Without power we cannot test the phone and we cannot wipe your data off it, and buying a phone we cannot clear is not something we will do. Send it in and we will recycle it at no charge, with the wipe done first, or ship it back to you for free if you would rather hold on to it.
No, not while a plan is running on it. Installments or a lease both count as a financial obligation, and we do not buy phones that are under one. Once the balance is cleared and the phone is yours outright, it quotes like any other.
Either one stops the sale. A blacklisted, carrier blocked or reported stolen IMEI cannot be bought at any grade. Nor can a phone still carrying a Google account, because factory reset protection locks it and nobody can test or clear it. Removing the account before the reset is what switches that off. If a locked phone reaches us, we get in touch and return it free.
It matters a lot. Unlocked is top at every grade and both capacities, and the drop is steep: a Good 256GB is $250 unlocked, $180 on AT&T, $160 on T-Mobile and $120 on Verizon. Choose the option that matches the phone, and if your carrier will unlock it first, do that.

You choose at the point you accept the quote: gift card, PayPal, bank transfer or check. The gift card is worth about 3 percent more because the brand adds a bonus, PayPal is instant with a 2.99 percent fee, the bank transfer takes 2 to 4 days and the check 3 to 5. Everything goes out the same day your phone clears inspection, which happens inside 48 hours of it arriving.
Account off first, reset second. Settings, Passwords and accounts, select your Google account, Remove account. Then Settings, System, Reset options, Erase all data.
