Here is a way to check without downloading anything. Turn the brightness all the way up, open the camera and point it at a blank white wall so the whole screen fills with plain white. Tilt it slowly. Then find something mid gray, a concrete step or an overcast sky, and do it again. You are looking for a ghost of the clock in the top corner, the status icons along the top, or the navigation bar at the bottom. Those three shapes sit still for hours a day, so they are what burns in.
A faint tint that shifts as you turn the phone is not burn-in, it is how any OLED looks off axis, and it costs you nothing. A shape that stays put no matter which way you tilt is the real thing.
The rest of the grade is quick. Any crack or chip, on the front glass, the back glass or the glass over the camera bar, is Faulty even if the phone works perfectly. Anything on the phone that has stopped working is Faulty too, because that is the rule on every Android phone we buy, and it is a principle rather than a list. There is no battery percentage rule on a Pixel and no battery health screen to hunt for, so put that worry down.

HOW A BUYBACK WORKS
Capacity, then carrier, then condition. Do the white wall check first so you are picking your grade from something you have seen rather than something you assume. Once you accept a price we hold it for 14 days, which is long enough to find the box and get to the mailbox.
We email a prepaid USPS label. Take your Google account off the phone, factory reset it, pull the SIM and send the handset by itself. The charger, the case and the box are not part of the price, and none of them help it travel.
Someone here checks your Pixel 9 Pro XL by hand within 48 hours of it landing, screen included, and emails you what we found. An unmarked 512GB pays $370 and an unmarked 256GB pays $350. Flawless means exactly what it sounds like, no marks at all, front, back or edges. Light wear that you cannot see from arm's length drops a 512GB to $320, which is still most of the money.
They are the same phone at two sizes, same three cameras, same chip, so the label on the front tells you nothing. Measure it. A permanent ghost of something that sat in one place for months. On this phone it is nearly always the lock screen clock in the top corner, the row of status icons across the top, or the navigation bar at the bottom. Full brightness, plain white, then a mid gray, tilting as you go. If the shape stays through both, it is burn-in and the phone grades Faulty, however well it works otherwise. If it fades within a minute or two, that is temporary image retention and it does not count against you.
Read this one before you choose, because on the Pixel 9 Pro XL the two grades pay exactly the same at all four capacities. Brand New means sealed, never activated, everything in the box, and it is the one grade we can only pay through PayPal, which charges 2.99 percent. Flawless can take a gift card instead, and gift cards average about 3 percent more. Same phone, same figure in the table, a few dollars better in your pocket. If the seal is broken, Flawless is the honest answer anyway.
Yes, and it still has a price. Any crack or chip, anywhere on the glass, puts the phone in Faulty with no exceptions, and that includes the little windows over the three cameras. A Faulty 512GB pays $64. Take the case and any screen protector off before you decide, because a protector can hide a hairline crack from the person who looks at the phone every day.
It does not change your grade. We put no battery rule on Android phones at all: no 80 percent line, no percentage, and nothing in a Pixel's settings for you to go and read. A worn battery on a two year old phone is normal and we expect it. The only time a battery matters is when it has actually failed, meaning the phone cuts out or will not charge, and then it is covered by the same rule as any other part that has stopped working.
Yes, and that is the whole rule rather than a checklist. If something on the phone does not work, the phone is Faulty. The fingerprint reader under the screen, the speakers, the mic, each button, the charging port, every camera, wireless charging. Run through them in five minutes with a voice memo and a couple of photos. Faulty is still a price, so a phone with a dead speaker is worth sending, it just needs to be quoted honestly.
No, and the reason is your data rather than ours. A phone that will not start cannot be tested and cannot be wiped, so we will not quote one. Send it in anyway and we will recycle it for free, wiping it to Department of Defense standard first, or post it back to you at our cost if you would rather keep it.
No. A phone on a monthly installment plan or a lease is under a financial obligation and those are not ones we can buy. Pay the balance off, get the phone released, and it quotes like any other Pixel 9 Pro XL that day.
Neither can be bought, at any grade. A blacklisted or carrier blocked IMEI, or one reported lost or stolen, is a phone we cannot resell. A Google account still on the handset triggers factory reset protection, and a locked phone cannot be tested or cleared. Remove the account first, then reset. If one arrives locked we will contact you and mail it back free.
Yes, and unlocked wins on this model at every grade and every capacity. A Good 1TB is $340 unlocked, $238 on AT&T, $217 on T-Mobile and $176 on Verizon. Quote the phone as it actually is. If your carrier will unlock it before you ship, that is worth doing first.

Not quite, and the difference is where the money goes. A carrier trade-in usually pays in bill credits spread over two or three years, and only while you stay on their plan. A Buyback is a sale: we buy the phone from you, you get cash or a gift card within a day of us checking it, and you can spend it on anything. It is worth pricing both before you commit, because the credit number and the cash number are not the same kind of money.
