IPHONE 8 BUYBACK PRICE
We pay between $1 and $22 for an iPhone 8. Capacity, condition, and carrier are the three selections that change the price. These are single dollars, and we would rather print them than dress them up. The iPhone 8 came out in 2017 and the used market has moved past it.
An Unlocked item pays more than a carrier locked item (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc), and on this model the gap is most of the money. A Verizon phone comes in at about half the unlocked price. AT&T and T-Mobile are lower again, and Other is lowest of all. Pick your real carrier anyway. We check the lock when the phone gets here.
Most people call this a trade-in. We call it a Buyback, and the difference you can check for yourself is the shape of the offer. A carrier hands you one figure. You cannot see what it is made of, and you cannot see what it would have been if your phone were worse. We publish the whole grid instead, including the box we no longer pay anything for. You can see where our prices stop. A single number cannot show you that.
The iPhone 8 is the first iPhone you could charge by setting it down on a pad instead of plugging a cable into it. That is called Qi wireless charging. Metal blocks the charging coil, so Apple replaced the aluminum back of the iPhone 7 with glass to make it work.
That one decision is why so many iPhone 8s grade Faulty. Glass cracks. A knock that would have dented an iPhone 7 breaks the back of an iPhone 8. Any crack forces Faulty, front, back or over the camera lens, and a small one counts the same as a big one.
Here is the check and it takes a minute. Set the phone face up on a wireless charging pad. If the battery icon does not wake up, look harder at the glass. Then turn the phone over, hold the back at a low angle under a lamp, and rock it slowly. A hairline crack is close to invisible from straight above and obvious under raking light. Last, run a fingertip around the rim where the glass meets the metal band. A lifted edge or a rough lip means the back panel has been off.
One box in the price grid has no money in it. We have stopped buying 64GB iPhone 8s that grade Faulty. A cracked 64GB is not a low price. It is no price. Send it to us anyway if you like. We will wipe it and recycle it for free, or post it back to you for free. The 128GB and the 256GB do still pay at Faulty.
A few dollars is still worth collecting. Shipping is free both ways, the phone is wiped here, and a phone in a kitchen drawer only gets cheaper. The one iPhone 8 we cannot buy at any price is one that will not turn on. We cannot test it. We cannot clear your data off it either, and that is the part we will not bend on.

The used resale value of an iPhone 8 tops out at $22 for a sealed unlocked 256GB and falls to a dollar or two along the bottom of the grid. A 128GB in Good condition is $8. Small money, honestly reported.
Storage across the top, grade down the side, all unlocked and all live. One cell reads No longer buying rather than a price, and that is deliberate.

HOW IT WORKS
Look at the back under a lamp first, because that is where this phone usually loses its grade. Then pick 64GB, 128GB or 256GB, pick your carrier, and pick the grade that matches the wear. If it is a 64GB with a crack in it, stop there and read the FAQ below rather than quoting it. Any Buyback price you accept is locked in for 14 days.
A prepaid USPS label comes to you by email. Pull off anything you want to keep, then wipe the phone from Settings, which is what signs your Apple Account out and lets go of Find My. Wrap it so the glass back does not get worse in transit. We can send you a box if you would rather. Cables and cases stay with you, they are not worth anything to us.
We check it over within 48 hours of arrival. If the phone is what you described, payment leaves the same day, by gift card, PayPal, bank transfer or check. Whether we buy it or recycle it, it gets a DoD-grade wipe here before it goes anywhere else.

IPHONE 8 QUESTIONS
Not much, and here are the real figures rather than a range. Unlocked 256GB in Good condition is $10. The same phone at Average is $8. A 128GB that has been dropped and cracked is $1. Run yours through the quote tool at the top for the exact number.
Because we stopped buying that one. A 64GB with any crack, chip, dead Touch ID or failed battery is the least valuable phone on our list, and the cost of handling it passed the point where a payout made sense. So instead of quoting you a dollar and then explaining ourselves, the table says No longer buying. You have two options and both are free. Send it on our label and we will wipe it and recycle it responsibly, or ask for it back and we cover the postage.
Yes on the 128GB and 256GB, at the Faulty price of $1 and $2. No on the 64GB, for the reason above. A cracked back is the classic iPhone 8 fault, because this is the model where Apple switched the rear panel to glass so the phone could charge wirelessly. Any crack grades Faulty wherever it is, and that includes the little cover over the camera lens.
Wireless charging is not on the list of things that force Faulty by itself. The trouble is what usually causes it. If the phone will not pick up from a charging pad, the common reasons are a cracked back panel or a back that has been replaced with an aftermarket one, and both of those do force Faulty. So test it on a pad, and if it fails, inspect the glass carefully before you choose a grade.
They are the same shape, because Apple built the 2020 SE inside the iPhone 8 body. Settings, General, About, Model Number is the only reliable answer. A1863, A1905 and A1906 are an iPhone 8. A2275, A2296 and A2298 are the iPhone SE (2nd Gen), and it is worth considerably more than this phone, so it is worth thirty seconds to check.
Count the cameras on the back. One lens is an iPhone 8. Two lenses stacked vertically is the iPhone 8 Plus, which is noticeably bigger in the hand and pays quite a lot more. The Plus reads A1864, A1897 or A1898 in Settings.
Both were sold here, which is why you see two. It goes back to the CDMA and GSM split in American networks. A1863 has the CDMA radio in it and is the version that went to Verizon and Sprint. A1905 is GSM only and went to AT&T and T-Mobile. A1906 is the Japanese model. Everything else about them is the same phone, and all of them quote at the same price on this page, so you cannot get this wrong in a way that costs you money.
Yes, for any grade above Faulty. Touch ID sits in the home button and this phone has no other way to unlock by biometrics. Apple pairs that button to the logic board at the factory, so a replaced button never reads a fingerprint again. Lock the screen and try it before you pick a grade.
That is Faulty, along with any service battery message. Settings, Battery, Battery Health and Charging shows it. On a phone this old, a battery still above 80 percent is the exception rather than the rule, so check before you grade rather than after.
No, not for money, whatever the storage. With no power there is no way to test the phone and no way to clear your data off it, and that second one is the part we will not compromise on. Free recycling is still on the table, or a free trip back to you. Give it fifteen minutes on a wall charger with a cable you know works first, because a flat battery is easy to mistake for a dead phone.

No. A phone still running on a carrier installment plan or a lease sits under a financial obligation, and those are not ones we can purchase. Once the balance is cleared and the phone is fully yours, quote it here.
No. A clean ESN is a condition of every grade, Faulty included. Blacklisted, reported lost or stolen, blocked by a carrier or still tied to an Apple Account all fail, and a phone that fails is returned to you at our cost. The Apple Account one is entirely in your hands: erase the phone before you send it and the lock lifts with it.
Save anything you want off it, then go to Settings, General, Transfer or Reset iPhone, Erase All Content and Settings. Typing your Apple Account password there is the step that actually turns Find My off and releases the phone. If the screen is too cracked to tap, sign the phone out remotely from iCloud on a computer instead. Our erasure guides cover both routes. We still run a DoD-grade wipe when it arrives, but do yours first.
