IPHONE 8 PLUS BUYBACK
We pay between $3 and $62 for an iPhone 8 Plus. Capacity, condition, and carrier are the three selections that change the price. This is a 2017 phone, so the numbers are modest and we would rather print them than talk around them.
An Unlocked item pays more than a carrier locked item (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc), and on this model the difference is large. Unlocked is the highest price in all eighteen squares of the grid. A Verizon phone comes in at roughly half of it. AT&T and T-Mobile are lower again, and Other is lowest of all. Pick the carrier your phone is really tied to.
A carrier would file this under trade-in. We call it a Buyback, and the clearest thing that follows is already on this page. The iPhone 8 Plus and the smaller iPhone 8 look like one product in two sizes. They are priced here as two different phones, because that is what they are, and this one pays about three times what the other does. We are buying a specific handset rather than a family name. That is why the grid is this detailed.
One fact about this phone that nobody points out. It has a round button below the screen that unlocks the phone when you rest your thumb on it. That is called Touch ID. It also has two camera lenses on the back. The iPhone 8 Plus is the last iPhone Apple built with both. The iPhone X went on sale weeks later and took the home button away. From then on, two lenses always came with Face ID instead.
That matters here for a practical reason. Two features mean two separate ways to lose your grade, and this phone carries both. The home button is one. The pair of lens covers is the other.
Test the button first. Lock the screen, press the home button once, then rest a finger still on it. If the phone opens, Touch ID is alive. If the button clicks properly but never recognizes you, the button has almost certainly been replaced. Apple pairs that part to the logic board when the phone is built, and no repair shop can recreate the pairing. Failed Touch ID forces Faulty. A button that has stopped clicking forces Faulty too.
Now the cameras, which take about twenty seconds. Open the Camera app and tap between 1x and 2x. On a healthy 8 Plus the picture jumps, because 2x switches to the second lens. If 2x only looks like a soft, enlarged version of 1x, the telephoto is not engaging and something is wrong behind the glass. Then tilt the back under a lamp and look across both lens covers at a low angle. Those covers are glass and they sit proud of the body, so they take the first chip in any drop. A chip in either one is a crack in glass, which means Faulty.
We still buy these cracked, scratched, with a dead home button, or perfectly fine. The one we cannot buy is a phone that will not power on, because we cannot test it and we cannot clear your data off it. Free recycling or a free trip home is still there for that one. We send a prepaid USPS label to your inbox. Copy off your photos, then erase the phone through Settings, which is the step that signs your Apple Account out and takes Find My off it. Pad it well, since this one is heavy and the glass back does not enjoy a drop in transit. Boxes on request. No need to include the charger, we cannot pay for it.

IPHONE 8 PLUS QUESTIONS
Storage and wear decide almost all of it. An unlocked 256GB in Flawless condition is $43. Move that to Good and it is $38. A 64GB with a cracked screen is $3. The tool at the top of the page prices your exact combination in about a minute.
This is the hard one, because both are big, both have a home button, and both have two lenses on the back. Turn the phone over and feel the back. The iPhone 8 Plus has a glass back. The 7 Plus is aluminum. If you are not sure by touch, rest it on a wireless charging pad: the 8 Plus charges, the 7 Plus cannot, because wireless charging arrived with the 8. The last word is Settings, General, About, where an iPhone 8 Plus reads A1864, A1897 or A1898.
Two lenses on the back means Plus. One lens means the smaller iPhone 8, and it has its own page with its own prices, which are a lot lower. The Plus is also 5.5 inches against 4.7 and noticeably heavier in the hand.
Both were sold in the United States, which is why there are two. It comes from the old split between CDMA and GSM networks here. A1864 carries the CDMA radio and went to Verizon and Sprint. A1897 is the GSM only build that went to AT&T and T-Mobile. A1898 is Japan. There is no price difference between them on this page, so this is a curiosity rather than something to worry about.
For anything above Faulty, yes. A telephoto that will not engage is a fault, and the quickest way to spot it is to tap 2x in the Camera app and see whether the image genuinely changes or only looks like a soft crop of 1x. Also check both lens covers under a lamp at a low angle. They are glass and they stick out slightly, so they take the first hit in a drop, and a chip in either one grades the phone Faulty.
Then the grade is Faulty, and there is a real price for that on this page. Touch ID is the only biometric an iPhone 8 Plus has. If the button clicks but will not enroll a fingerprint in Settings, Touch ID and Passcode, the button has almost certainly been replaced at some point, and that pairing to the logic board cannot be recreated by any repair shop. Nothing you can do about it, so grade it accurately and take the price.
Yes. That is the Faulty row, and it pays $3 on a 64GB up to $6 on a 256GB. Any crack or chip counts, front, back, or on one of the camera lens covers. There is no minimum size and no benefit of the doubt for a hairline. The back on this model is glass, so give it a proper look under a lamp before you decide.
Under 80 percent means Faulty, and so does a service battery notice. You will find the number in Settings, Battery, Battery Health and Charging. This phone is old enough that most surviving batteries have dropped below the line, so look before you grade. A big screen on an aging battery is a hard life.
No, not for a payment. Without power we cannot test the phone or erase your data from it, and neither of those is something we will guess at. We will still take it: send it on our free label and it gets a proper wipe and responsible recycling, or say the word and it comes back to you at our expense. Worth trying a known-good cable and a wall socket for a quarter of an hour first.

The comparison is worth spelling out on a phone this age. A carrier trade-in hands back credit against a new handset, usually spread over 24 or 36 months of a plan, and on a 2017 phone that credit is often nothing at all. If a phone comes back blacklisted, reported lost or stolen, carrier blocked, or still attached to an Apple Account, we cannot buy it and we return it to you free. That last one is avoidable in five minutes with a proper erase before you post it.
Get anything you care about off it first. Then Settings, General, Transfer or Reset iPhone, Erase All Content and Settings. It will ask for your Apple Account password, and that is the moment Find My releases the phone, so do not skip it. Our erasure guides have the whole sequence with pictures. Every phone also gets a DoD-grade wipe once it is here, but that is a second layer, not a substitute.
