On this model the numbers run from $3 for a 32GB with something properly wrong with it to $42 for a 256GB still sealed. Those are small numbers. This tablet came out in March 2016 and the market has moved a long way since, so we would rather show you the figure now than talk around it. If it is sitting in a drawer, it is still more than the drawer is paying.
A published price only works if the seller can check the thing it is keyed to. That is the constraint we write these pages under: every trigger below is something you can see, hear or feel from where you are sitting, which is why there is a firm number here at all rather than an invitation to mail it in and hope. On a 2016 Pro one item breaks that rule, and most of what follows is about working around it.
The battery is what sets the grade on most of these, and it is the one thing you cannot look up. Under 80 percent health puts the iPad in Faulty, which is a row with a real price in it and costs you six to eight dollars against the row above, depending on the size. A current iPad shows you the percentage on screen. This one has no such readout at all: Apple stopped giving it new software years ago, and the health figure arrived after the last version it can run.
So judge it by behavior instead. Charge it to full, unplug it, and use it normally. If it drains while you are barely touching it, shuts down with charge still showing on the meter, or will not stay on away from the cable, treat it as under 80 and grade it Faulty. If it holds a charge through an evening, it is fine.
Nine years is also long enough that people forget which one they own. The iPad Pro 9.7-inch and the iPad Air 2 are the same size, the same thickness and the same shape, and both have a round Home button. Two things separate them without any doubt. Look along the left edge for three small dots, the Smart Connector, which the Pro has and the Air 2 does not. Then turn it over: the Pro's camera stands out from the aluminum with a small flash next to it, and the Air 2's sits flush with no flash. The bigger iPad Pro 12.9-inch (1st generation) and the later iPad Pro 10.5-inch both have their own pages.
This was also the first Apple screen with True Tone, which is a quiet piece of trivia and a useful check at the same time. Open Settings, then Display and Brightness. A True Tone switch there means you are holding the Pro.
Where to sell an iPad Pro 9.7-inch is mostly a question of who still quotes one. We do, used or broken, and the Buyback price is on screen before you ship anything. HOW IT WORKS
Choose 32GB, 128GB or 256GB, WiFi or WiFi + Cellular, and the grade that matches the wear. Think about the battery before you pick, because on a tablet this age it decides more grades than the glass does. The Buyback price you accept is locked for 14 days.
We email a prepaid USPS label. Erase the iPad and sign out of iCloud first so Activation Lock is off, then wrap it and send it on its own. No Apple Pencil, no Smart Keyboard, no case. None of them are paid for and none of them can be mailed back.
Your iPad is checked within 48 hours of arriving. If it is what you said it was, payment leaves that same day as a gift card, PayPal, a bank transfer or a check. Every tablet gets a DoD-grade wipe here, bought or recycled.

IPAD PRO 9.7 INCH BUYBACK QUESTIONS
Storage and condition, nothing else. A 256GB with no marks on it is Flawless and pays $30. The same tablet in Good condition is $20. A 32GB with a crack in it is $3. All eighteen figures are in the table above.
You cannot read a percentage on this one, so you have to judge it. Apple added the battery health page to iPads in a software version the 9.7-inch Pro is too old to install, and it never got one. Settings has a Battery section, but there is no health figure inside it.
Charge it to 100, unplug it, and watch what happens. A battery that drops away while you are only reading, cuts out at 20 or 30 percent, or needs the cable to stay alive, is under 80 and the iPad grades Faulty. One that lasts an evening of normal use is fine and the battery is not your problem.
If you genuinely cannot tell, be honest at the quote step and expect the lower number. On a 32GB the gap between Fair and Faulty is six dollars, so guessing wrong here is not expensive, and we test the battery when it lands either way.
They are the same size and shape, so go by two details. Look at the left edge for three small dots, which is the Smart Connector for the keyboard. The Pro has them, the Air 2 has nothing there. Then look at the rear camera. The Pro's lens sticks out and has a small flash beside it. The Air 2's is flat with no flash. Reading the A-number off the back settles it as well: A1673, A1674 and A1675 are the Pro, and A1566 and A1567 are the Air 2.
All three are this iPad and all three quote on this page. A1673 is the WiFi only version. A1674 and A1675 are the two WiFi + Cellular versions. It is printed on the back in small text, and if that has rubbed off you can find it in Settings, then General, then About, by tapping the Model Number line so it flips to the A-number.
No, and that surprises people, because on most iPads it does. On the 9.7-inch Pro the two are level at every grade and every storage size, right down to Faulty. Quote whichever one you actually own and the figure is the same. There is no carrier lock on an iPad either, so the network it lived on is irrelevant. Two checks do only apply to a Cellular one: the IMEI has to be clean, and the nano-SIM tray has to still be in the edge, since a missing tray forces Faulty.
Yes, at the Faulty price. Any crack or chip does this, and it is not limited to the screen, so a chipped aluminum corner or a broken bit of glass over the camera lands in the same place. A cracked 256GB pays $4 and a cracked 32GB pays $3. Small money, but it is money, and picking Faulty up front means nothing changes at inspection.
Either one puts the iPad in Faulty. A button that has stopped working is a Faulty trigger on its own, and non-working Touch ID is another, and on this tablet both live in the same round part under the screen. Give it a press and try opening the iPad with a fingerprint before you choose a grade.
We cannot put a price on that one. Without power there is no way to test it and no way to clear your data off it, and both of those have to happen before we buy anything. Try an hour on a Lightning charger first, because a battery this old can sit so flat it looks dead. If it stays dark, send it to us anyway on a free label and we will recycle it for nothing, wiped to DoD standards, or mail it back to you free if you would rather keep it.
Then it is not one we can take yet. An iPad still on a monthly plan or a lease counts as being under a financial obligation, and we do not purchase devices under financial obligations. Once the balance is cleared and it is properly yours, quote it as normal.
No, and there are two separate things being asked there.
The first is Activation Lock, which has to be off on every one of these, WiFi or Cellular. You turn it off by signing out of iCloud and erasing the iPad, and doing that before you post it is what stops the tablet coming straight back to you.
The second is the IMEI, which only Cellular models have. It has to be clean, so anything reported lost or stolen, or blocked by a carrier, is one we have to decline. Settings, General, About lists it. A WiFi A1673 has no IMEI, so that check does not exist for it.
No, keep them. Accessories are not priced into the quote, so the Apple Pencil (1st generation), the Smart Keyboard, a case and the charger are worth nothing to the offer and cannot be returned once they reach us. Send the iPad by itself.
A trade-in at a carrier or at Apple is credit, set against something new you are buying that day, and it only exists if you are buying. A Buyback is a purchase. We buy the iPad on its own, pay you by gift card, PayPal, bank transfer or check, and you owe nobody anything afterwards.
On a 2016 tablet the other half of the answer is condition. Every grade on this page carries a price, cracked and Faulty included, as long as the iPad still powers on. Color is worth clearing up while we are here: Silver, Space Gray, Gold and Rose Gold all quote identically, so the only Rose Gold iPad Pro Apple ever made is worth exactly what the others are.
Back up anything you want to keep, then open Settings, tap General, then Transfer or Reset iPad, then Erase All Content and Settings. It will ask for your Apple Account password, and entering it is the step that actually clears Activation Lock. Our device erasure guides page walks through it with screenshots.
