A Buyback puts one number on the whole tablet, and that number is set by the worst thing about it rather than by an average of the good and the bad. A 12.9-inch Pro with a spotless screen, a healthy battery and one chipped corner is not somewhere in the middle. It is priced on the chip. That reads harshly until you are the person who buys it next, who will notice the chip and nothing else. So grade the worst thing you can find on yours, not the impression it gives from across a room.
On WiFi the numbers run from $43 for a 128GB with a break somewhere in the glass or the aluminum to $353 for a 1TB nobody has opened. The twenty two steps in between are all in the table.
Average is light wear you cannot feel with a fingernail, which is where a lot of these land after years of being opened and shut in a keyboard case. Used, scratched, cracked or dead, we put a number on all of them.
This is the iPad that learned to use a mouse.
Apple started selling this generation in March 2020, and the update that put a cursor on the iPad's screen landed the day before it shipped. Two months later the Magic Keyboard turned up with a trackpad built into it. Plug a mouse into yours, or drop it into that keyboard, and a small gray circle appears and chases your finger around the screen. That is this iPad doing the thing it was launched for.
Now the part that touches your quote. The Magic Keyboard for the 12.9-inch cost 349 dollars new. That is more than we can pay for most of these tablets today, and we cannot pay a cent of it, because accessories are not priced into any quote here. Keep the keyboard. It is worth more on your desk than in our box, and once it is in the box we have no way to send it back.
The keyboard leaves one more mark on your price. It covers the back of the iPad every day it is on, so the aluminum back is the one surface you never actually look at. Take the tablet out and run a thumbnail along the edges, the corners and the small glass over the cameras. A chip or a crack anywhere back there grades the whole iPad Faulty, however perfect the screen is.

Pick 128GB, 256GB, 512GB or 1TB, then WiFi or WiFi + Cellular, then the grade that honestly matches. Slide the iPad out of its keyboard case first and check the back, because that is the surface that decides between Fair and Faulty. The Buyback price you accept is locked for 14 days.
A prepaid USPS label arrives by email. Sign out of iCloud so Activation Lock is off, erase the iPad, and send it on its own. The Magic Keyboard, the Smart Keyboard Folio, the Apple Pencil, the case and the charger all stay with you. None of them move the offer.
We inspect within 48 hours of the parcel arriving. If the Pro matches what you told us, payment leaves the same day by gift card, PayPal, bank transfer or check. Every tablet gets a DoD-grade wipe here, whether we buy it or recycle it.

IPAD PRO 12.9 INCH BUYBACK QUESTIONS
Storage and condition, that is the whole sum. Color does not come into it, because Silver and Space Gray quote at the same number. A 256GB graded Average pays $225. The same tablet at 512GB in Good condition pays $250. A 1TB with no marks on it anywhere is Flawless, and that pays $315. All twenty four WiFi prices are in the table above, and the quote box at the top of the page gives you your Buyback price.
From the outside these two are almost the same tablet, so do not trust your eyes. Turn it over and read the A-number near the bottom edge. A2229, A2069, A2232 and A2233 are the 2020 model and you are on the right page. A1876, A1895, A2014 and A1983 are the 2018 tablet, which has its own prices on our iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation) page. If the engraving has worn off, open Settings, tap General, then About, and look at Model Number. If what you see starts with an M or an F, tap it once and it flips to the A-number.
Stand it next to a sheet of letter paper. The 12.9-inch is taller and wider than the page and it is noticeably heavy in one hand. The 11-inch tucks inside it. The A-number settles any argument: A2229, A2069, A2232 and A2233 are the 12.9-inch, while A2228, A2068, A2230 and A2231 are the iPad Pro 11-inch (2nd generation).
Yes, and it is worth being blunt about what it costs. Any crack or chip, on the screen, on the aluminum back, or on the little glass covers over the cameras, moves the tablet to Faulty. A 128GB in that state pays $43 and a 1TB pays $57. Pick Faulty when you quote and nothing changes when it reaches us. Trying to pass it off as Fair only means a revised offer and a delay.
Corners and edges, mostly. Take the iPad fully out of the case, hold it under a lamp and tilt it. What you are hunting for is a chip in the aluminum or a hairline crack near a corner, because that is a Faulty and it decides your grade more than anything on the front does. Then feel the two small glass covers over the cameras with a fingernail. Dents and scuffs are fine and count as wear. A break in the surface is not.
No, and this one stings on this model, because the 12.9-inch Magic Keyboard was a 349 dollar accessory. We cannot price accessories, so a keyboard, a Smart Keyboard Folio, an Apple Pencil, a folio case or the charger all add exactly zero. Worse, once they are in the parcel we have no way to return them. Sell the keyboard separately or keep using it. Send us the tablet on its own.
Then it grades Faulty. There is no Touch ID on this iPad to fall back on, so Face ID is the only biometric it has, and Face ID that will not recognize you puts the tablet into Faulty pricing even if the screen is spotless. Test it before you quote: lock the iPad, pick it up, and see whether the padlock opens. If it asks for your passcode every single time, that is your answer.
Below 80 percent, the grade is Faulty. A Service Battery message does the same thing. At 80 percent or above the battery has no effect on your grade at all. On current software, Settings, then Battery, shows you the health figure. If this Pro is still on an older version there is no percentage to read anywhere on it, so judge it by use: a tablet that cannot get through a morning away from a charger, or that shuts itself off somewhere in the twenties, is the one this rule is written for.
It does, at every size and every grade, but it is not a flat 40 dollars. At 128GB, 256GB and 512GB the premium is identical column for column: 45 dollars at Brand New, 40 at Flawless and again at Good, 37 at Average, 24 at Fair and 8 at Faulty. The 1TB column matches that on the top two rows and then roughly halves, so a Good, Average, Fair or Faulty 1TB carries 20, 19, 12 and 4 dollars instead. The very top price on this page, $398, belongs to a sealed 1TB Cellular rather than to any WiFi model. There is no carrier lock on an iPad, so whichever network it sat on makes no difference to us. Two things are different about a Cellular one though. Its IMEI has to be clean, and it has a nano-SIM tray that has to still be there. Not sure which you own? Open Settings and look for a Cellular Data section. No section, no cellular.
It does. A missing or damaged SIM tray forces Faulty, and this generation is one that still has a tray, unlike the newer Pros that went eSIM only. Look along the right edge for the small slot and the pinhole. If the tray has been pushed in wrong, bent, or lost, quote it as Faulty. If your iPad is a WiFi model there is no tray to lose and the rule cannot touch you.
Not for cash, and the reason is practical rather than fussy. With no power we cannot test a single thing on it, and we cannot clear your files off it, which is not something we will skip. Put it on a charger for an hour first, because a deeply flat battery can look dead. If it truly will not wake, we will recycle it for free or mail it back to you for free, your choice. Recycled tablets still get a DoD-grade wipe.
Not while the balance is still running. A tablet on a monthly plan or a lease is a device under a financial obligation, and we do not purchase those. Settle it with whoever holds the agreement and it quotes like any other 12.9-inch Pro.
No, and that is two checks rather than one.
Activation Lock has to be off. That applies to every 12.9-inch Pro we buy, WiFi or Cellular. Signing out of iCloud and erasing the tablet is what actually switches it off, and doing it before you post is the difference between getting paid and getting the iPad mailed back.
The IMEI has to be clean, and that check only exists on WiFi + Cellular models, because a WiFi Pro has no IMEI at all. Anything reported lost or stolen, or blocked by a carrier, fails there and we have to turn it down. Yours is in Settings, General, About.
A trade-in is paid in credit. Apple or the carrier knocks it off the next tablet or hands you store credit, so the money only spends in one shop. A Buyback is paid to you, by gift card, PayPal, bank transfer or check, and you decide where it goes.
The bigger gap on a 2020 Pro is damage. A trade-in desk tends to value a cracked screen or a chipped aluminum back at zero. Faulty is a priced grade here, and the whole Faulty row is in the table above. Get their figure, read our number, then pick the higher one. If theirs wins, take theirs.
Back it up, then open Settings, tap General, then Transfer or Reset iPad, then Erase All Content and Settings. Typing your Apple Account password there is what turns Activation Lock off.
