A Buyback grades on six rows rather than two, and the distance between the bottom two is bigger than people expect. Heavy wear you can feel with a fingernail is Fair. One crack, one chip, one dead speaker or a battery under 80 percent is Faulty, however tidy the rest of the tablet looks. On this model the Fair row pays exactly three times the Faulty row at all four storage sizes, so it pays to be slow and literal about which of the two you are actually holding.
Before you choose a grade, play something out loud.
This iPad has four speakers, one in each corner, and five microphones. The four are not decoration. The iPad works out which way up you are holding it and sends the left and right channels to whichever pair happens to be on the left and right at that moment. Test the sound one way round and you have tested two speakers and left the other two alone.
Do it properly and it takes twenty seconds. Play a song, listen, turn the iPad 180 degrees, listen again. Then stand it in portrait and listen once more. One dead corner, one that buzzes, or a microphone that records silence, and the tablet grades Faulty. Any audio fault does that, however clean the glass is. It is the fault owners miss most often on an 11-inch Pro, because three working speakers cover for a dead one and you stop noticing.
That is not a trap, it is a price. A Faulty 11-inch Pro is still bought and still paid for, at the figure on the bottom row of the table, and you would rather find that out here than after you have posted it.

HOW A BUYBACK WORKS
Choose your storage, WiFi or WiFi + Cellular, and a grade. Play something out loud and rotate the iPad before you decide, because a dead corner speaker is a Faulty and it is easy to miss. The Buyback price you accept is held for 14 days.
A prepaid USPS label comes by email. Erase the iPad and sign out of iCloud first so Activation Lock is off, then send the tablet bare. Pencils, keyboards, folios and chargers are not paid for and we cannot mail them back to you.
We inspect within 48 hours of the parcel landing. If it matches your description the money goes out that same day, by gift card, PayPal, bank transfer or check. Every iPad gets a DoD-grade wipe here, bought or recycled.

It comes down to storage and condition. A 256GB in Fair condition pays $114. Move that to Good and it is $190. A 1TB with no marks at all is Flawless, which pays $275. The table higher up the page has all twenty four WiFi figures, and the quote box gives you your exact one.
Yes, at the Faulty price. Any audio fault sends the iPad to Faulty, and that covers a silent speaker, a buzzing one, and a microphone that records nothing. Faulty here is $34 on a 128GB and $49 on a 1TB. Check all four before you quote, since rotating the tablet swaps which pair is doing the stereo. If they all sound right, ignore this and grade on the wear instead.
Looking at it will not settle it. Apple kept the same flat body, the same screen size and the same finishes, so read the A-number off the back instead. A2228, A2068, A2230 and A2231 are the 2020 tablet you are quoting here. A1980, A1934, A2013 and A1979 are the 2018 one, which has its own page and its own prices at sell your iPad Pro 11-inch. If the print has rubbed off, Settings, General, About shows it under Model Number, and tapping a code that starts with M or F flips it to the A-number.
Hold it in one hand. The 11-inch is manageable that way and fits on a sheet of letter paper. The 12.9-inch overhangs the page and you feel the weight straight away. The model numbers agree: A2228, A2068, A2230 and A2231 are the 11-inch, and A2229, A2069, A2232 and A2233 are the iPad Pro 12.9-inch (4th generation).
Yes. A crack does not get the tablet refused, it moves it to Faulty. A cracked 128GB pays $34 and a cracked 1TB pays $49. The rule reaches further than the screen: chips on the aluminum back and breaks in the small glass over the cameras count the same way. Choose Faulty in the quote and the number holds when it gets here.
That grades Faulty. This Pro has no Home button and no Touch ID, so Face ID is the only way in besides the passcode, and a broken one puts it in Faulty pricing whatever the rest looks like. Lock it, lift it, and watch the padlock. If it never opens on its own, you have your grade.
Then it is Faulty. Same for a Service Battery warning. Anything at 80 percent or above makes no difference to the grade, so there is no partial deduction to worry about in between.
Settings, then Battery, shows you the health figure on current software. On older software an iPad prints no percentage at all, so judge it by what the tablet does: one that cannot get through an afternoon off the charger, that cuts out at 20 or 30 percent, or that only stays awake plugged in is below 80.
Yes, in all twenty four cells, but the gap is not a flat number. On a 128GB it is about 10 dollars. On the 256GB, 512GB and 1TB it is 15 to 17 dollars at the top of the table, and it is widest at 20 dollars on a 512GB in Good condition. At Faulty it closes to between 2 and 4 dollars. The highest price on this page, $329, is a sealed 1TB Cellular. iPads have no carrier lock, so the network it lived on is irrelevant to us. Two things do change on a Cellular one. The IMEI has to be clean, and the nano-SIM tray has to still be in the edge, because a missing or damaged tray forces Faulty. WiFi models have neither an IMEI nor a tray, so neither rule can reach them.
Not for cash. A tablet with no power cannot be tested and your data cannot be cleared off it, and we will not buy something we cannot do either of those to. Leave it on a charger for an hour before you decide, because a flat battery can look final. If it stays dark, we recycle it free or post it back free, whichever you would rather. Recycled ones are still wiped to DoD standards.
No, not until they are finished. While a plan or a lease is running, the tablet counts as being under a financial obligation, and those sit outside what we buy. Pay it off, own it outright, then come back and quote it.
No, and it is worth separating the two things people lump together.
First, Activation Lock. It has to be off on every one of these, WiFi or Cellular. Sign out of iCloud and erase the tablet and that is done.
Second, the IMEI, which only exists on Cellular models. It has to be clean, so anything reported lost or stolen or blocked by a carrier fails and we cannot take it. You will find the IMEI in Settings, General, About. A WiFi Pro skips this one entirely because it does not have an IMEI.
Keep all three. The offer covers the tablet by itself, so an Apple Pencil, a Magic Keyboard, a Smart Keyboard Folio, a folio case or the charger add nothing at all to it, and once they are in the parcel we have no route to send them back. Peel the case off and post the iPad bare.
An Apple trade-in usually pays you in credit toward the next thing you buy, and the number is set by their own program. A Buyback is cash, and you are not buying anything from us to get it. We set the price from storage, condition and whether the iPad is Cellular, then hold it for 14 days while it travels.
One thing that does not move the Buyback price is color. Silver and Space Gray are worth the same to the dollar. Storage, condition and cellular are the three levers, and finish is not one of them.
Take a backup, then Settings, General, Transfer or Reset iPad, then Erase All Content and Settings. It asks for your Apple Account password, and entering it is what actually clears Activation Lock.
