An iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation) is worth between $22 and $202 on this page today. Those are small numbers for a tablet that cost the better part of a thousand dollars new, and we are not going to dress them up. It is a 2018 machine. It is also worth more today than it will be next year.
Something in the table below looks like a mistake and is not. At four of the six grades a 64GB, a 256GB and a 512GB all pay exactly the same figure. A Buyback follows what people are actually willing to give for a seven year old Pro, and what they want out of one is the screen and the processor behind it. The disk barely registers. So on this model the grade carries almost the whole price, and the storage tier you paid extra for in 2018 carries almost none of it.

Apple had put a round button under the screen on every iPad for eight years. In 2018 it went, and Face ID arrived to do its job. There is no Touch ID anywhere on this tablet. Not on the front, not in the top button, nowhere. The camera bar above the screen is the only thing that opens it apart from your passcode.
Which matters for your price, because Face ID that has stopped working forces Faulty, and on this model there is nothing left to fall back on.
Before you write it off, check that you are not the problem. Face ID on this generation works in any orientation, which sounds helpful and quietly is not. Hold the iPad in landscape the way most people hold it and your palm sits straight over the camera. The tablet cannot see you, so nothing happens, and you conclude that Face ID is dead. Move your hand, lock the screen, lift it and look at it. If the padlock opens on its own, Face ID is fine and you should be grading on wear instead. If it never opens with a clear view of your face, that is a genuine Faulty, and Faulty is still a price rather than a refusal at all four storage sizes. The exception is 1TB, which is the one step where the number genuinely lifts, and it lifts at every grade. If yours is the 1TB, make sure the quote box knows it before you compare anything. The storage answer further down sets the two side by side with the actual figures.

Lock the screen and lift the iPad with your hand well clear of the top camera bar before you decide, because Face ID is the one test that changes the grade on this model. We email a prepaid USPS label. Erase the iPad and sign out of iCloud so Activation Lock is off, then send the tablet on its own. An Apple Pencil, a Smart Keyboard Folio, a case and the charger are not paid for and cannot be returned to you, so keep them.
Your iPad clears inspection within 48 hours of arriving. If it is what you described, payment leaves that day by gift card, PayPal, bank transfer or check. Everything that comes through here gets a DoD-grade wipe, bought or recycled.

Yes, at the Faulty price, which is $22 on a 64GB and $28 on a 1TB. Test it properly first though. Put the iPad flat on a table, lock it, then lift it and look straight at it with both hands off the top bezel. Most of the reports we hear turn out to be a palm parked over the camera in landscape. If the padlock opens by itself, Face ID is working and you grade on wear instead.
Because this is the generation Apple took it off. The 2018 Pros were the first iPads built without one, and Face ID replaced everything the button used to do. Nothing is wrong with yours and it does not cost you anything on the quote. It does mean the tablet has one biometric rather than two, so if Face ID fails there is no fingerprint reader to fall back on and the grade goes to Faulty.
Count the lenses on the back. One camera on its own is the 2018 tablet, which is this page. Two lenses in a square with a small black dot next to them is the iPad Pro 11-inch (2nd generation) from 2020, priced separately. The bodies are the same size and shape and the finishes match, so the camera is the fastest way to tell without reading anything. The A-numbers confirm it: A1980, A2013, A1934 and A1979 are this one.
Lay it on a sheet of letter paper. The 11-inch fits inside the page and is comfortable in one hand. The 12.9-inch overhangs it and you feel the weight straight away. Both are this iPad. A1980 is the WiFi only version. A2013 and A1934 are the WiFi + Cellular versions, and A1979 is that Cellular tablet as sold in mainland China. All four quote here. The A-number is printed on the back in small type, and if it has worn off, Settings, General, About shows it under Model Number once you tap the code to switch it over.
Yes. A crack changes the grade, it does not end the sale. A cracked 64GB pays $22 and a cracked 1TB pays $28. Chips in the aluminum and a break in the small glass over the rear camera count the same as a cracked screen. Choose Faulty at the quote step and the price stands when the iPad reaches us.
Storage does, but less than you would think. On this model 64GB, 256GB and 512GB pay the same figure at Good, Average, Fair and Faulty, and it is only at 1TB that the number really lifts. Good at 512GB is $110 and Good at 1TB is $140. Color changes nothing at all. Silver and Space Gray are worth the same to the dollar.
That puts the iPad in Faulty, and so does a Service Battery warning on the settings screen. Above 80 percent there is no deduction of any kind, so a battery sitting at 82 percent is treated exactly like one at 100. Settings, then Battery, shows you the health figure on current software. On older software there is no percentage to read, so go by behavior: a tablet that will not hold a charge through an afternoon, or that cuts out well above zero, is one to quote at the bottom of the table.
Yes, at every size and every grade without exception, and the capacity decides how big the gap is. At 64GB it never exceeds 5 dollars. At 256GB it runs from 3 up to 17, at 512GB from 5 up to 25, and at 1TB from 4 up to 20. The largest number on this page, $213, is a sealed 1TB Cellular. There is no such thing as a carrier locked iPad, so the network it ran on is irrelevant. Two extra requirements come with a Cellular one: a clean IMEI, and the nano-SIM tray still sitting in the edge.
That grades Faulty. A missing or damaged SIM tray forces Faulty, and this Pro really does have a physical tray, so the rule bites here. Check the right edge for the narrow slot with a pinhole beside it. An empty slot, a bent tray, or a tray borrowed from another device all land in the same place. A WiFi model has no slot at all, so none of this applies to one.
Not for cash. Without power there is no way to test it and no way to clear your data off it, and buying something we cannot do either of those to is not something we will do. Leave it on a USB-C charger for an hour before you give up, since a fully drained 2018 battery can take a while to show anything. If it stays dark we will recycle it free or mail it back free, whichever you prefer, and recycled tablets are still wiped to DoD standards.
No. If money is still owed on the iPad, whether that is a monthly installment plan or a lease, it counts as being under a financial obligation and we cannot purchase it. Settle the balance and it quotes like any other tablet.
No, and these are two different problems that get talked about as one.
The first is Activation Lock, which applies to every iPad here, WiFi or Cellular. It has to be off before we can buy, and signing out of iCloud and erasing the tablet is what switches it off.
The second is the IMEI, which only a Cellular model has. It has to be clean, so a tablet reported lost or stolen, or blocked by a carrier, is one we cannot take. You will find the IMEI under Settings, General, About. A WiFi Pro has no IMEI, so it only has the first requirement to meet.
Back it up, then open Settings, General, Transfer or Reset iPad and choose Erase All Content and Settings. It will ask for your Apple Account password, and entering it is the part that clears Activation Lock. Our device erasure guides page walks through it screen by screen.
