One word on what this is. Your carrier calls it a trade-in, and their version needs things from you: an account in good standing, an upgrade you happen to be eligible for, a plan you agree to stay on, sometimes a store you have to walk into. First, make sure this is the phone you have. Samsung did not write FE anywhere on it.

Now the part that decides your money, and it decides more of it on this phone than on any other in the family.
The FE is the cheapest Galaxy S24 there is, so the drop from Fair to Faulty takes a bigger share of it than the same drop does anywhere else in the family. Roughly two thirds of what the phone is worth rides on whether the glass is whole, and a crack is Faulty even when everything about the phone still works. The table below has both numbers.
So do this properly rather than glancing at it. Take the case and the screen protector off, both of them, because a protector hides a hairline crack and it also cracks on its own and fools you the other way. Hold the phone under a lamp and tilt it, front then back, looking at the reflection rather than through the glass. Then run a fingernail slowly over anything you find. A mark it glides across is a scratch and you are still in Fair. A line it drops into is a crack.
Two more things carry the same weight. Anything on the phone that has stopped working makes it Faulty, which on a Samsung is a principle rather than a list, so a dead button counts the same as a dead camera. And burn-in makes it Faulty as well: white image, full brightness, dim room, look across the screen at an angle for a ghost of the clock or the keyboard. The FE has an OLED panel like every Galaxy S, and OLED is what burns.

FE is Fan Edition, Samsung's cheaper version of the flagship, and the awkward part is that the letters appear nowhere on the phone. No badge on the back, nothing on the frame.
The processor gives it away in five seconds. Settings, About phone, Software information, and read the chip. A US Galaxy S24, S24+ or S24 Ultra is a Snapdragon. The S24 FE is an Exynos 2400e, and it is the only one Samsung sold here that way. If it says Exynos, you have an FE.

They are the same 6.7 inches and both have three rear lenses, which is why this comes up so often. The FE is the heavier one, 213 grams against 196, its bezels are noticeably thicker, and the Galaxy S24+ has a Screen resolution setting under Settings, Display that the FE does not, because the S24+ panel goes to 3120 by 1440 and the FE stops at 1080p.
It is worth getting right. The two phones are a long way apart in price, and we grade and pay on the phone that turns up, not the one on the quote. Model number is the last word: SM-S721U is the FE, SM-S926U is the S24+.
Yes, at the Faulty price, and on this phone that is the sentence worth reading slowly. Fair at 256GB is $91 and Faulty is $30. At 128GB it is $79 against $26.
Any crack or chip does it, front, back or on a lens cover, and it does not matter that the phone still works perfectly. Choose Faulty at the quote step and the number will not move when we open the box. Choose a higher grade with a crack on the phone and it will.
It depends which layer is cracked, and it is worth thirty seconds to find out. Peel the protector off. Tempered glass protectors crack constantly, that is the job they were bought to do, and the screen underneath is often untouched.
With the protector off, tilt the phone under a lamp and look at the reflection rather than through the glass. Then run a fingernail across the mark. If your nail glides over it, it is a scratch in the coating and you are still at Fair or better. If it catches, the screen itself is cracked and the grade is Faulty. Send the phone without the protector on either way, since it only gets in the way of the inspection.
Burn-in, most likely, and burn-in grades a Galaxy S24 FE Faulty. The panel is OLED, the same as every other Galaxy S, and OLED wears unevenly where the same thing sits on screen for years.
Confirm it before you accept it. Brightness to maximum, a plain white image filling the screen, lights off, and look across the glass at an angle rather than square on. A readable ghost of the clock, the status icons or the keyboard is burn-in. A blue or green tint that only appears from the side is normal for OLED and does not cost you anything.
Yes, and it prices as Faulty. On Samsung phones we do not keep a list of parts that matter, because they all do. If any of it has stopped working, the phone is Faulty, so a fingerprint reader that will not read sits in exactly the same place as a dead speaker, a stuck button, a camera that will not focus or a charging port that only holds at one angle.

No. We do not put a battery percentage into Samsung grading, so nobody needs to go looking for a health reading, and a battery that no longer gets through a full day is not a reason to grade yourself down.
A battery that has failed outright is a fault like any other. If the phone shuts off with charge left on the meter, will not accept a charge, or the back panel has started to lift, that is Faulty, and it is Faulty because something has broken rather than because of a number.
This is the single thing we cannot buy. A phone that will not power up cannot be tested, so any figure we put on it would be invented, and your photos, messages and saved passwords cannot be cleared off it before it leaves your hands.
Try a wall charger and a cable you know is good for half an hour before you give up on it, because that fixes more phones than anything else. If it stays dark, send it in on the free label anyway. We wipe it to Department of Defense standards and recycle it for nothing, or we mail it back to you for nothing, whichever you prefer.
