The top two rows are the same number. Brand New means sealed and never opened, Flawless means no marks at all, and on this phone they pay identically at 128GB and at 256GB. Flawless is the better of the two to hold, because a sealed phone is the one grade we settle by PayPal alone. And Flawless sounds like nobody until you peel the case off a phone that has never been out of one.
One thing about the word before the checks start. A carrier trade-in has three parties in it: you, the network, and whoever is funding the promotion this quarter, which is why the terms read the way they do and why they are different again in six months. A Buyback has two. We want the Galaxy S24, you want the money, and the only thing either of us has to agree on is what the phone is actually like. Nobody else is in the room and nothing else is being sold.
Here is the thing about selling a Samsung that catches iPhone owners out.
Our Apple rules are a list. Face ID, the SIM tray, the buttons, the battery figure, each one written down. The Samsung rule is shorter and wider than any of that: if something on the phone does not work, the phone is Faulty. There is no list to work down, because everything is on it.
That sounds harsh and it is actually easier, because it means you only have to answer one question about your Galaxy S24. Does all of it still work?
Samsung ships the tool that answers it. Open the Samsung Members app, which is already on the phone, tap the Discover tab, then Diagnostics, then pick Phone. It runs you through the touchscreen, every button, the speakers, both mics, the cameras, the flash, the fingerprint reader, face recognition, the sensors, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, the SIM slot, wireless charging and cable charging, with instructions on screen for each one.
It takes about ten minutes and it decides which end of the table you are reading. One broken part takes a Galaxy S24 to the bottom row whatever the rest of it looks like, and on a 256GB that is most of the phone's value. Better to find out at your kitchen table than to have us find it and call you.
Two faults the app will not catch, so check them yourself. Look at the glass in raking light for a crack or a chip, front and back, because any break in the glass is Faulty however well the phone runs. And look for burn-in: white image, full brightness, dim room, look across the screen at an angle for a ghost of the clock or the keyboard. Every Galaxy S has an OLED panel, so every Galaxy S can burn in, and burn-in is Faulty too.
Check you have the right phone while you are in Settings. The Galaxy S24 is the small one, 6.2 inches and 167 grams. Settings, About phone, Model number reads SM-S921U or SM-S921U1. If it says SM-S926U you want the Galaxy S24+, SM-S928U is the Galaxy S24 Ultra, and SM-S721U is the Galaxy S24 FE.

Pick 128GB or 256GB, pick your carrier, pick your grade. Run the Diagnostics test in Samsung Members before you choose, because on a Samsung one broken part sets the whole grade and that is the only thing you can get badly wrong from home. Your Buyback price is locked for 14 days.
We send a prepaid USPS label by email. Take your Google account off the phone, factory reset it, then send the phone alone. Chargers, cables, cases and the original box add nothing to the price, so keep them or pass them on.
A person opens your parcel and checks the phone within 48 hours of it reaching us. If it is what you described, the money goes the same day, however you asked to be paid. If it is not, you hear exactly what we found and what it changes, and you can have the phone back at our cost.

Use the test Samsung already put on the phone. Samsung Members, Discover tab, Diagnostics, then Phone. It walks you through the screen, the buttons, the speakers, the mics, the cameras, the fingerprint reader, face recognition, the sensors, the SIM slot and both kinds of charging, one at a time, telling you what to press.
Anything it flags is a fault, and on a Samsung a fault means Faulty, whatever the rest of the phone looks like. It is worth knowing that before you commit to a grade rather than after we open the box.
The S24 is the small one. 6.2 inches against 6.7, and 167 grams against 196, so the difference is obvious the moment you hold both. On its own, use Settings, Display. If there is no Screen resolution option, you have the S24, because it is a 1080p phone and Samsung gives the menu only to the higher resolution models. The Galaxy S24+ has that menu and its own prices.
The model number ends the argument. Settings, About phone, Model number. SM-S921U or SM-S921U1 is the S24.
These two are easy to muddle on a spec sheet, since both were sold in 128GB and 256GB, and easy to tell apart in your hand. The S24 is 6.2 inches and 167 grams. The Galaxy S24 FE is 6.7 inches and 213 grams, so it is half an inch taller and nearly 50 grams heavier.
The chip is a second tell. Open Settings, About phone, then Software information and look at the processor. Every US Galaxy S24 runs a Snapdragon. Every S24 FE runs an Exynos. And the model number, as always, is definitive: SM-S921U here, SM-S721U on the FE.
Good is light wear you stop noticing at arm's length. Average is wear you can see up close but cannot feel when you run a fingernail over it. Fair is heavy wear you can feel, with the glass still whole. Flawless is no marks anywhere.
The line that matters is the fingernail. Drag one slowly across the screen and the back. Marks it glides over are scratches and keep you at Fair or better. Anything it catches and drops into is a crack, and a crack is Faulty no matter how well the phone works.
Yes. Cracks and chips are Faulty, including a chipped lens cover, and Faulty carries a price. A 256GB in that state is $43 and a 128GB is $37. Choose Faulty at the quote step and the number will not move when the phone gets here.
Hold it under a lamp and tilt it rather than looking straight down. Hairline cracks in Victus 2 glass are almost invisible face on and jump out in raking light.
Burn-in, and it grades the phone Faulty. Every Galaxy S has an OLED display, so it can happen to any of them, and the S24's smaller screen is no protection. Turn the brightness up, fill the screen with a plain white image, stand in a dim room and look across the glass at an angle. If a shadow of the clock, the status icons or the keyboard is readable, that is the answer. Our Galaxy S24+ page has a longer version of the same test.
A single bright dot is a dead pixel rather than burn-in, and it is still a fault. A color shift when you look at the screen from the side is normal OLED behavior and costs you nothing.
No. There is no battery percentage in our Samsung grading at all, so there is no number to hunt for and no screen you need to photograph. A two year old phone with a two year old battery is a normal phone and it prices like one.
If the battery has actually stopped doing its job, that is caught by the same rule as everything else. A phone that dies at half charge, refuses to take a charge, or has swollen enough to push the back panel out is Faulty because it has a fault, not because of a percentage.
That is the one thing we cannot put a price on. If the phone will not power up, we cannot test what we are buying, and you cannot clear your photos, messages and saved passwords off it beforehand. Guessing at a number in that situation would be doing you a disservice.
Give it a wall charger and a known good cable for thirty minutes first, since a dead cable looks exactly like a dead phone. If it stays dark, mail it in on the free label anyway. We will wipe it to Department of Defense standards and recycle it for nothing, or send it straight back to you for nothing.
No, not while the payments are still running. A phone on a carrier installment plan or a lease is under a financial obligation, and we do not purchase devices under financial obligations. Settle it, confirm with your carrier that the phone is yours, and it prices the same as any other Galaxy S24.
No. A locked phone is not something we can buy at any grade, and three separate things can lock one.
The Google account lock, or FRP, is the one people trip by accident. Remove your Google account from the phone first, then reset it: Settings, General management, Reset, Factory data reset. Second, the Knox counter. Rooting the phone or flashing custom firmware trips it permanently and puts the phone out of reach for us. Third, the IMEI, which fails if the phone has been reported lost or stolen, blacklisted, or blocked by a carrier. Dial *#06# to read yours and check it before you box anything up.
