SELL YOUR SONY XPERIA 1
A Sony Xperia 1 pays between $10 and $69. That is a small number and we are not going to dress it up. This is a 2019 phone. It is still real money for something sitting in a drawer, and the quote takes about a minute.
Most people call it a trade-in. We call it a Buyback, and the price is different because a person here opens the box and checks the phone by hand.
Now look at the top edge of your Xperia 1. There is no headphone socket up there, and that one missing hole tells you two useful things.
The first is which phone you are holding. The Xperia 1 is the only phone in this line Sony built without a 3.5 mm jack. Sony put the jack back on the Xperia 1 II and kept it on every model after that. A bare top edge means you have the original Xperia 1, and this is the page with your prices on it.
The second is how to test the sound. Every pair of wired headphones on this phone runs through the USB-C port at the bottom, so that one port carries your charging and your audio. Plug in a USB-C headset, or a USB-C to 3.5 mm adapter, and play a song. If one side is silent, or nothing plays, the phone grades Faulty. Any part of the phone that does not work makes it Faulty here, and audio is a part of the phone.
One thing to check before you quote. Sony sold the Xperia 1 with 64GB and with 128GB, and our price feed is only carrying the 128GB models right now. A 64GB Xperia 1 comes back as zero today. Open Settings, then Storage, and read which one you have before you spend time on the form.
Sony sold this phone unlocked and direct, and Unlocked is the option that pays here. If yours came from Sony or from an electronics store rather than a carrier counter, pick Unlocked when you quote.
Where to sell a used Sony Xperia 1 really comes down to who still quotes one at all. We do, working or broken. If it will not power on we cannot buy it, because we cannot test it and we cannot clear your data off it, but we will recycle it for nothing and wipe it on the way. Postage is free whichever way it goes.
LIVE PRICES
The used resale value of a Sony Xperia 1 runs from $10 at the bottom to $69 at the top. Those are the 128GB unlocked figures, which are the only Xperia 1 prices our feed is carrying today.
How much you can sell yours for comes down to how it looks and whether everything still works. Every number below is pulled live from our own price feed.
| Comparison row | 128GB |
|---|---|
Brand New | $69 |
Flawless | $66 |
Good | $51 |
Average | $44 |
Fair | $31 |
Faulty | $10 |
HOW IT WORKS
Pick 128GB, pick Unlocked or your carrier, then pick the grade. Do the USB-C audio test first, because a dead port is the fault most likely to be sitting on a phone that looks fine. The Buyback price you accept is held for 14 days.
We email you a prepaid USPS label. Before it goes in the box, take your Google account off the phone and then erase it, in that order, so no account lock is left behind. Pull the SIM card out and leave the empty tray in the phone. The charger, the cable, the case and the box all stay with you. None of them change your Buyback price.
Your Xperia 1 is checked within 48 hours of reaching us. If it is what you described, the money goes out the same day as a gift card, a PayPal payment, a bank transfer or a check. Every phone gets a Department of Defense grade wipe here, whether we buy it or recycle it.

XPERIA 1 BUYBACK QUESTIONS
It depends on the wear and on whether everything works. A 128GB unlocked Xperia 1 in Average condition is $44 right now. Drop the same phone to Fair and it is $31. A cracked one still carries a price at $10. Run the quote tool at the top of this page for your exact figure.
Look at the top edge. The original Xperia 1 has nothing up there. The Xperia 1 II has a 3.5 mm headphone socket, and so does every Sony phone in this line after it. That is the fastest way to tell them apart from across a table. If you want to be certain, Settings, About phone gives you the model number. J8170 is the Xperia 1. XQ-AT51 is the Xperia 1 II.
Our price feed is carrying the 128GB Xperia 1 and nothing else at the moment, so a 64GB one comes back as zero. That is a gap in our pricing rather than a judgment about your phone. Check yours in Settings, Storage. If it is 64GB, we would rather you knew that now than after you posted it. Come back in a few weeks and try again, or ask us for a free recycling label if you would rather it left the house today.
Yes. A crack or a chip anywhere on the screen, the back or a lens cover puts the phone in Faulty. That is a price, not a refusal, and a 128GB one in that state pays $10. Pick Faulty at the quote step and nothing changes when it gets here. The only phones we cannot put a number on are the ones that will not switch on, because we cannot test those or clear your data off them.
There is no battery percentage rule on this phone. We do not ask you to find a battery health screen and we do not grade on a number. A seven year old battery that still runs the phone is fine. If the battery genuinely does not work, meaning the phone shuts down on its own or will not hold any charge, that is a part of the phone that stopped working and it grades Faulty like anything else that stopped working.
Two tests, about thirty seconds. Play a song on the loudspeakers and listen to both ends of the phone, because the Xperia 1 has a speaker at each end and one of them can die quietly. Then plug a USB-C headset or a USB-C to 3.5 mm adapter into the bottom port and play the same song. Check the left ear and the right ear separately. Silence on either side, crackle, or a port that only works when you hold the plug at an angle all count as an audio fault, and an audio fault is Faulty.
Average is light wear you cannot feel with a fingernail. Run your nail across the screen and the back. If it glides, and the phone works, that is Average. If it catches on something, that is Fair, which is heavy wear you can feel but with no cracks and no chips. If you find a crack or a chip, it is Faulty whatever the rest of it looks like. Grade it the way you would want a stranger to grade it and there are no surprises at our end.
It does. The Xperia 1 has an OLED panel, and OLED panels can hold a ghost of whatever sat still on them for years. Burn-in grades the phone Faulty even if there is not a scratch on it. Test it properly: open a plain white image full screen at full brightness and look for shadows of the status bar, the clock or the navigation buttons. Six year old panels show it more often than people expect.
A carrier will usually hand you bill credit spread over 24 or 36 months, and you have to stay with them to collect all of it. We send you money, once, in your choice of four ways, and you owe us nothing afterwards. On a phone this old the carrier offer is often nothing at all, because their lists stop at the models they still sell. We are also happy to tell you when our number is small, which is why the range at the top of this page starts where it does.
It can. Sony sold the Xperia 1 unlocked and direct in the US, and Unlocked is the option that pays here. If your phone is tied to a network, pick that network on the quote form and take the number it gives you. Do not guess. Search your settings for network lock or SIM lock if you are not sure, or drop in another carrier's SIM and see whether it makes calls.
Not while the lock is on it. A phone still signed in to somebody's Google account cannot be set up by anyone else, so we cannot buy it at any grade. Remove the account first, then erase the phone, in that order. Doing it the other way round can leave the lock in place. The same answer covers a phone reported lost or stolen, a blacklisted IMEI and a phone a carrier has blocked. Those we have to turn down and send back.
Not yet. A phone still sitting on an installment plan or a lease is under a financial obligation, and we do not purchase devices under financial obligations. Settle the balance, own it outright, then quote it here as normal.
No. Nothing is required in the box except the phone. The charger, the cable, the case, the screen protector and the original packaging are not priced in, so sending them adds nothing and only gives them a chance to go missing. Take the SIM card out and leave the empty tray in the phone, because a missing tray is a fault.
Four ways, and you choose. A gift card lands by email and works out around 3 percent better than the rest, because the brands add a bonus on top. PayPal is instant, with PayPal's own 2.99 percent fee taken off. A bank transfer is 2 to 4 days and a posted check is 3 to 5. Whichever you pick, it leaves the same day your phone clears inspection. One thing to know: a sealed Brand New phone is paid by PayPal only.
Pick your storage, your carrier and your grade. It takes about a minute, and we hold the price for 14 days.
