A ROG Phone 9 pays between $70 and $451. Most people call this a trade-in. We call it a Buyback, and the difference is that somebody here opens the box and tests the phone rather than pricing it off a photo.
Turn the phone on its side, the way you hold it to play something. There is a USB-C port under your left thumb. There is another one on the bottom edge where every phone has one. Two ports, and only one of them ever gets tested.
That side port is the reason the ROG Phone 9 can charge while you are holding it in landscape, and it is the faster of the pair. It runs at USB 3.1 gen 2 speed and it pushes video out to a screen. The bottom port is the slow one.
So plug a cable into each one in turn and watch for the charging icon. If the side port has stopped charging, or stopped passing data, that is a part of the phone that no longer works, and anything that no longer works grades Faulty. It costs nothing to check and it is the single most missed test on this model.

ROG PHONE 9 BUYBACK QUESTIONS
Most of these come to us in Average condition, meaning light wear you cannot feel with a fingernail. A 256GB like that pays $211. At 512GB it is $232. Storage and wear are the only two dials. Run your own through the quote tool at the top of the page for the exact figure.
Average is the honest middle. The phone has been used, you can see light marks if you look, but when you run a fingernail across the glass and around the frame nothing catches. That is the test, not how it looks in a photo.
If your nail does catch on something, you are in Fair. If there is a crack or a chip anywhere at all, screen, back or camera glass, that is Faulty regardless of how well the phone works.
The back gives it away. Both light up, but the plain ROG Phone 9 has 85 mini LEDs scattered across the panel while the Pro has 648 packed into a grid. Yes, at the Faulty price. Both ports are part of the phone and both have to work, so if the side one no longer charges or no longer passes data, the grade is Faulty. That pays $176 on a 256GB and $193 on a 512GB. Tell us at the quote step and there is no surprise at either end.
Plug a charger into the side port on its own and look for the charging icon. Then do the same with the bottom port. If you have a USB-C monitor or a dock, plug that into the side one as well, because it is the only port on the phone that carries video, and a port can charge fine while the data pins have gone. Two minutes, and it decides which row of the table you are in.
You can, and it stays a real payment. A crack or a chip anywhere puts the phone in Faulty, which is $176 at 256GB and $193 at 512GB. There is no negotiation on this rule and there is also no penalty for telling us. Where sellers lose money is quoting a broken phone as clean and then being regraded.
They do. The two squeeze zones on the right hand edge are sensors, and a sensor that no longer registers a squeeze is a part of the phone that has stopped working, which means Faulty. Turn them on in Armoury Crate for any game and squeeze each one. Nothing about this shows in a photo, so it is worth ten seconds.
No, keep it. We do not price accessories into a Buyback, so the cooler, the case, the cable and the plug add nothing to your figure and can only go missing in the post. Nothing is required in the box. Just the phone.
No. We do not grade Android phones on a battery percentage, so there is no number to hit and no screen to hunt for. The only way a battery affects your grade is if it has genuinely stopped doing its job, which is caught by the same rule that covers everything else.
Yes, it is AMOLED, and burn-in means Faulty. Check it like this. Dark room, brightness up, a plain white picture filling the screen. Then look for a shape that does not belong: the clock, the signal bars, the on-screen navigation bar. If it fades in a second it was an afterimage and it costs you nothing. If it sits there while you scroll, it is burn-in, and the phone is still worth sending at the Faulty price.
In most cases nothing at all, because no US carrier ever stocked the ROG Phone 9 and their tools only quote phones they sold. That is why an ASUS gaming phone tends to sit in a drawer instead. A clean 512GB is $386 here, which is a lot better than a drawer.
We will not, and here is the honest reason. If it will not power up we cannot test it and we cannot clear your data off it, so we will not put a number against it. We will recycle it for free instead, wiped to Department of Defense standards and disposed of properly, or post it back to you for free. Your choice.
Then we cannot buy it, at any grade. An FRP or Google account lock leaves the next owner with a phone they cannot set up. Sign out and erase it before you post it and the problem disappears. The same goes for anything reported lost or stolen or blocked by a network, which we have to decline.
