IPHONE XR BUYBACK
We pay between $14 and $98 for an iPhone XR. Capacity, condition, and carrier are the three selections that change the price.
For example, an Unlocked item will generally be a higher payout than a carrier locked item (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc). Carrier locked means the phone runs on one network only, until that network releases it. We checked all ninety prices on this model. Unlocked is the highest of the five at every capacity and every grade, with Verizon next and Other lowest.
Most people call this a trade-in. We call it a Buyback, and one practical difference is who works out what the phone is. At a counter somebody else tells you, because they are holding the scanner. Here that job is yours. On this phone it matters more than usual. The iPhone 11 is nearly the same object from the front and pays more, so a wrong answer is money left behind. That is why this page opens by teaching you the check rather than by selling you anything. Do it once and the difference is yours, not ours.
Turn the phone over and look at the glass square in the corner. There is one lens in it, sitting on its own. That single lens is what makes an iPhone XR an XR. Two lenses in the same square is an iPhone 11. Two lenses on a diagonal, inside a mirror-shiny steel band, is an iPhone X or XS.
If counting is awkward, open the Camera app instead. An XR gives you 1x and nothing else. An iPhone 11 puts a 0.5x button beside it for the wide lens it has and the XR does not. No 0.5x means no second lens, which means you are on the right page.
One lens also means one lens cover, and that little disc of glass counts exactly like the screen. A chip in it grades the phone Faulty, even though the photos still come out fine. Hold the back under a lamp and tilt it until the light rakes across the lens. A chip catches the light in a way dust and fingerprints do not. Ten seconds and you know.
One thing runs in your favor here. The XR screen is LCD rather than OLED, so it cannot get the permanent ghost of a status bar or a keyboard burned into it. That fault is real, and it grades a phone Faulty. It belongs to the OLED models sold beside this one, the iPhone X and the iPhone XS, and not to this one. An XR with a clean unbroken panel does not need that test at all.
The rest is short. We buy an iPhone XR used, scratched, cracked or long dead in a drawer, and the price is on this page rather than behind an email. The one we cannot buy is an XR that will not power on, because it cannot be tested and your data cannot be cleared off it. That one gets recycled free or mailed back free, and it is wiped either way. HOW IT WORKS
Choose 64GB, 128GB or 256GB, choose unlocked or the carrier it is really on, and choose the grade. Count the lenses before you start, because an iPhone 11 quoted as an XR gets repriced when it reaches us and you would be leaving money behind. The Buyback price you accept is locked for 14 days.
Print the prepaid USPS label we email you. First, save anything you want off the phone. Then sign out of iCloud, which is what lets go of Find My, then wipe it from the Settings app. Pull your SIM card out and leave the empty tray where it is, because a missing tray costs you the grade.
Inspection is done inside 48 hours of the box landing. Matches your description, payment goes the same day, by gift card, PayPal, bank transfer or check. Whatever happens next, the phone gets wiped to DoD standards at our facility, and that includes the ones we recycle rather than buy.

IPHONE XR QUESTIONS
Capacity and condition decide it. A 128GB in Good condition is $57. Drop the same phone to Average and it is $47. A 64GB with a smashed screen is still $14. The quote tool at the top of the page gives you the figure for your exact one.
Count the lenses on the back. One lens means iPhone XR. Two lenses in the same square glass block means iPhone 11. They are nearly the same size, the same shape and the same 6.1-inch screen, so the camera really is the giveaway. A second check: open the Camera app and look for a 0.5x button. The iPhone 11 has one because it has an ultra wide lens. The XR does not. If it turns out you have the 11, its numbers are higher and they live on our sell your iPhone 11 page.
The XR has an aluminum edge and comes in colors: blue, yellow, coral, red, white, black. The XS has a mirror-shiny stainless steel edge and only came in silver, space gray and gold. The XS also has two rear cameras on a diagonal, where the XR has one. Model number settles it: A1984 is an XR, A1920 is an iPhone XS.
Yes, and cracked XRs are one of the more common things we take in. Any crack or chip puts it in the Faulty row, no matter how small and no matter whether it still works perfectly. That is $14 at 64GB, $17 at 128GB and $20 at 256GB. Check the back glass and the camera lens cover too, because a chip in either of those counts the same as a cracked screen.
No, and this is one of the few good things about the XR having an LCD screen instead of an OLED one. Burn-in is an OLED problem. The iPhone X and iPhone XS both have OLED panels and can get a permanent ghost of the status bar or the keyboard burned in, and when that happens they grade Faulty. An iPhone XR cannot. If your screen is clean and unbroken, that is the end of the question for you.
Below 80 percent, the phone grades Faulty. Same if it is showing a service battery warning. You will find the reading in Settings, then Battery, then Battery Health and Charging. On software older than iOS 16.1 the same screen is called just Battery Health. On an iPhone XR that has never had a battery replacement this is genuinely worth checking, because a 2018 battery that has been charged every night for years is often in the seventies by now even when the phone still feels fine day to day.
Non-working Face ID grades the phone Faulty. The iPhone XR has no fingerprint reader and no home button, so those sensors in the notch are its only way of proving it is you. If Face ID cannot recognize you any more, or Settings tells you Face ID is unavailable, pick Faulty when you quote. Do not guess, actually lock the phone and look at it.
It does. The lens cover is glass and our rule on glass has no exceptions: a crack or a chip anywhere on the phone grades it Faulty. The XR only has one lens cover, so there is only one to check, and it is easy to miss because a small chip disappears against a dark background. Tilt the phone under a light until the reflection sweeps across the lens. If the light catches on something, that is a chip.
We cannot put a price on that one. No power means we cannot test the phone and cannot erase your data from it, and we will not buy a device we cannot clear. Before you give up, plug it into a wall charger, not a computer, and leave it for half an hour, because a deeply flat battery takes a while to show anything. If it stays dark, send it in anyway on a free label and we will wipe and recycle it at no cost, or ship it back to you for nothing.
Not while it has money owing on it. A phone on a carrier installment plan or a lease is under a financial obligation, and we do not purchase devices under financial obligations. Log into your carrier account and check the balance. Once it reads zero and the phone is yours outright, it quotes here exactly like any other iPhone XR.
No, on either count. Every grade we offer, Faulty included, needs a clean ESN. Reported lost, reported stolen, blocked by a carrier or still signed in to somebody's Apple Account all fail that check, and the phone gets returned rather than paid for. The Apple Account part is on you and it takes two minutes: sign out of iCloud and erase the phone before it leaves the house.
Not upward. Unlocked is the top of the range on the XR, and AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and the rest come in at or below it. Some iPhones in our catalog do the opposite and pay more on a carrier than unlocked, so it is worth picking your real network in the quote tool rather than assuming, but on this model what you see in the table is the ceiling.
A carrier trade-in is credit. It usually turns up as money off a new phone, or as bill credit spread over 24 or 36 months that you only collect in full if you stay on the plan. A Buyback is money for the XR on its own. We check it by hand within 48 hours of it arriving and pay that same day by gift card, PayPal, bank transfer or check, with nothing tied to it.
Ask for both numbers and compare the cash rather than the headline. One thing changes neither of them: color. The XR came in six and Coral does not beat Black by a cent. Pick your storage and your grade and ignore the paint.
Back up anything you want to keep first. Then open Settings, tap your name at the very top, scroll to the bottom and sign out. That step is the one that turns Find My off. Then go to Settings, General, Transfer or Reset iPhone, and choose Erase All Content and Settings. It asks for your Apple Account password, and entering it is what releases the phone. We run a DoD-grade wipe when it arrives as well, but a phone that turns up still signed in has to go back to you unpaid, so do your part first.
You choose the method at checkout and it goes out the same day the phone passes inspection. Gift card is emailed and ends up roughly 3 percent higher than the rest, because the brands add a bonus. PayPal lands instantly but PayPal takes its 2.99 percent fee out of it. Bank transfer is 2 to 4 days, a mailed check is 3 to 5. The only restriction is on a sealed Brand New iPhone XR, which is paid through PayPal and nothing else.
