SELL YOUR IPAD MINI 5
An iPad mini 5 is worth between $13 and $125 on this page today. Which of the two storage sizes you have, and what seven years have done to the glass and the battery, is what decides where inside that spread yours lands. The table below prints every step between the two, so you can find your own row instead of guessing at a middle figure.
A Buyback ends with the tablet being used again, and on a mini this old that is most of the case for selling it rather than holding on to it. Nothing about 2019 hardware stops it being a decent reading screen, a recipe stand propped up in a kitchen, or a first tablet for somebody small, and the people who want exactly that are not the people about to buy a new one at full price. So we buy it, test it, wipe it and find it another owner. It is also why the cracked ones carry a number instead of a refusal: a mini that has stopped being anybody's tablet is still a screen, a battery and an aluminum shell worth recovering.
Apple built two iPad minis you cannot tell apart by looking at them.
The iPad mini 5 and the iPad mini 4 are the same 7.9 inches, the same three colors, the same round Home button, the same Lightning port, the same headphone jack on the top edge. Put them side by side on a table and nobody picks the newer one. That matters more here than almost anywhere else on this site, because the mini 5 pays three to four times what the mini 4 pays at a matching grade.
Settling it takes one number and no flipping. Open Settings, tap General, then About, and read Capacity. 16GB, 32GB or 128GB means you are holding an iPad mini 4, because Apple never sold a mini 5 in any of those sizes. 256GB means it is a mini 5. Those were the only two capacities it came in.
64GB is the size both of them were sold in, and that is the expensive one to guess at. At a matching grade a 64GB mini 5 pays about three times what a 64GB mini 4 does. So on 64GB, and only on 64GB, turn the tablet over and read the A-number: A2133, A2124, A2125 and A2126 are all the mini 5, while A1538 and A1550 are the mini 4.
Check the battery while you are in Settings anyway. A tablet charged every night since 2019 is often under 80 percent capacity by now, and under 80 percent grades Faulty however spotless the glass is. Settings, then Battery, shows you the health figure on current software. Behavior tells you too: if it cannot hold a charge through an afternoon of reading, or you have seen a service battery warning, expect Faulty. We measure it properly when the mini reaches us.
Prices in the table are WiFi. A WiFi + Cellular iPad mini 5 pays more at every size and every grade, and the premium is not flat: it runs from a dollar at Faulty on the 64GB up to 13 dollars on a sealed 256GB, and at each grade the 256GB gap is roughly double the 64GB one. The top figure this model reaches belongs to a Cellular 256GB rather than a WiFi one, so set connectivity correctly in the quote box before you compare numbers.
Where to sell an iPad mini 5 really comes down to who still prices a small seven-year-old tablet properly instead of writing it off as scrap. We quote all six grades of it, used, scuffed or cracked. The best place to sell a used iPad mini 5 is somewhere that still puts a number on the broken ones, and if yours turns out to be past saving we recycle it free.
LIVE PRICES
The used resale value of an iPad mini 5 runs from $13 for a cracked 64GB up to $125 for a sealed 256GB, or $138 if that sealed 256GB has cellular.
Storage and wear do nearly all the work. Find your row, find your column, and the figure where they meet is what we pay. Everything below refreshes on its own.
| Comparison row | 64GB | 256GB |
|---|---|---|
Brand New | $100 | $125 |
Flawless | $81 | $101 |
Good | $66 | $81 |
Average | $57 | $70 |
Fair | $40 | $49 |
Faulty | $13 | $16 |
HOW IT WORKS
Read Capacity in Settings first so you are quoting the right tablet, then choose 64GB or 256GB, WiFi or WiFi + Cellular, and the grade that matches the wear. The Buyback price you accept is held for 14 days from the moment you take it.
A prepaid USPS label arrives by email. Sign out of iCloud and erase the mini so Activation Lock is off, then send the tablet on its own. On a Cellular one, take the SIM card out and leave the empty tray in place. No Apple Pencil, no case, no charger.
Inspection is finished within 48 hours of the mini landing with us. If it matches what you described, payment leaves the same day by gift card, PayPal, bank transfer or check. Every tablet is wiped to DoD standards, whether we buy it or recycle it.
SPEC SHEET
Every A-number here comes from Apple's own identify page. It is printed in small type on the back near the bottom edge, and it also sits in Settings, General, About, under Model Number. If that field shows a code beginning with M, tap it once and it flips to the A-number.
| Apple's name for it | iPad mini (5th generation) |
|---|---|
| Year | 2019 |
| Model number, WiFi | A2133 |
| Model number, WiFi + Cellular | A2124, A2125 and A2126. Apple lists all three together, so any of them is a Cellular mini 5. |

| Chip | A12 Bionic |

IPAD MINI 5 BUYBACK QUESTIONS
Size, wear and cellular decide it. A 256GB graded Good is $81. The same tablet at Average is $70. A 64GB with a cracked screen still pays $13. The quote box at the top of the page prices your exact one in under a minute.
No. They are two different deals at two different prices. A carrier trade-in is credit, handed back to you against a new tablet or spread across your bill, and on a 2019 mini it is usually a small amount of it. A Buyback is us buying the mini outright for money you can spend anywhere, sent the same day it clears inspection by gift card, PayPal, bank transfer or check.
The other difference is what happens to your data. We wipe every mini to DoD standards and track it the whole way. The number on this page is the Buyback price.
You cannot answer this by looking, and that catches people out constantly. Both are 7.9 inches, both have the Home button, both charge over Lightning and both have a headphone jack. Read Capacity in Settings, General, About instead. 16GB, 32GB or 128GB is an iPad mini 4, which has its own page and much lower prices. 256GB is a mini 5.
At 64GB the capacity proves nothing, because both were sold in that size. Flip it over and read the A-number. And if the tablet has a USB-C port instead of Lightning and no headphone jack, it is neither of these: that is an iPad mini 6.
A2133 is the WiFi only iPad mini 5. A2124, A2125 and A2126 are the WiFi + Cellular versions, and Apple lists all three together without splitting them by region, so any of them quotes as Cellular here. Read it off the back near the bottom edge, or from Settings, General, About. It is worth a look rather than a guess, because the Cellular models pay more.
Good is light wear you cannot see from arm's length. Average is light wear you can see but cannot feel with a fingernail. Fair is heavier marking you can feel, with nothing cracked or chipped anywhere.
Faulty is a fixed list rather than a judgment call. A crack or chip on the screen, the back or the camera cover. Battery capacity under 80 percent, or a service battery warning. A replaced or aftermarket screen. Screen burn-in. Touch ID that will not read your finger. Any button that has stopped working. A bent frame. A fault in either speaker or the microphone. Engraving of any kind. A missing or damaged SIM tray on a Cellular model. Any single one of those sets the grade on its own.
Yes, and it still gets paid for. A crack or a chip anywhere puts the mini into Faulty, which for a 64GB is $13 and for a 256GB is $16. Pick Faulty when you quote, describe it as it is, and the figure does not move when we open the box. The one version we cannot buy is a mini so broken it will not switch on or will not answer a touch, because then there is no way to test it or clear your data off it.
Faulty, on either count. The button has to click and act on the press, and Touch ID has to recognize your fingerprint. If one of those fails the mini grades Faulty even with perfect glass. Test it before you choose a grade: press it a few times, then open the tablet with your finger rather than the passcode. Ten seconds now saves a corrected quote later.
It does, once capacity drops under 80 percent. Then it is Faulty, whatever the rest of the tablet looks like, and a service battery message means the same thing. At 80 percent or above the battery makes no difference at all. Settings, then Battery, shows you the health figure on current software, and how it behaves tells you the rest. On a mini this old, a battery that dies in an afternoon is common rather than unlucky, and it is the single most frequent reason a tidy looking mini 5 grades Faulty.
Cellular pays more at every size and grade on this model. At Faulty it is a dollar or two. On a sealed 256GB it is 13. So the highest number on this page belongs to a Cellular tablet at $138 and not to a WiFi one. No iPad is carrier locked, so whichever network it ran on makes no difference to us.
The IMEI matters, and only on Cellular models, since a WiFi mini 5 does not have one. It has to be clean. Anything reported lost or stolen, or barred by a carrier, fails that check and we cannot buy it. Yours is in Settings, General, About. Check it before you mail the tablet rather than after.
Not for money, no. With no power we cannot test a single thing, and we cannot clear your data off it either, and we will not skip that second part. What is on the table instead is free recycling, or a free return if you would rather hang on to it. Recycled tablets still get the DoD-grade wipe as soon as we can reach the storage.
No. If there is money still owing on the mini, through a monthly plan or a lease, it counts as being under a financial obligation and we do not purchase devices under financial obligations. Clear the balance, own it outright, and it quotes exactly like any other tablet on this page.
No, and these are two separate checks worth understanding on their own.
Activation Lock has to be switched off, and that applies to every mini 5, WiFi or Cellular. Signing out of iCloud and erasing the tablet is what turns it off. A mini that arrives here still locked cannot be tested or resold, so it goes back in the mail to you and everybody loses a week.
A clean IMEI is the second check and it only touches Cellular models, because the WiFi version has no IMEI to check. Reported lost, reported stolen or blocked by a carrier all fail there, and we have to decline those.
Keep all of it. The price covers the tablet by itself, so an Apple Pencil (1st generation), a folio, a stand or a Lightning cable adds nothing to what you are paid and only gives something the chance to go missing in the mail. Accessories are not priced in and we would rather they stayed with you.
Not by a cent. Silver, Space Gray and Gold all quote identically. Storage, condition and whether it has cellular are the only three things that move the number.
Erase it before it leaves the house. Settings, then General, then Transfer or Reset iPad, then Erase All Content and Settings. Typing your Apple Account password at that prompt is the step that actually clears Activation Lock. Our device erasure guides walk through every screen if you would rather follow along.
Payment comes four ways and you pick. A gift card is emailed and lands about 3 percent above the cash figure, because the brands add a bonus. PayPal is instant, minus the 2.99 percent fee PayPal takes. A bank transfer is 2 to 4 days, a mailed check 3 to 5. All four go out the same day your mini clears inspection. A sealed Brand New tablet is the one exception, and that is paid by PayPal only.
Pick 64GB or 256GB, WiFi or Cellular, and the grade that matches the wear. About a minute of your time, and the price is yours for 14 days.
