A Galaxy Z Flip3 5G is worth $3 to $40. That is a small number and we are not going to dress it up. This is a 2021 foldable, the first one most people ever owned, and the market for a five year old folding phone is thin.
So here is the honest version up front. If yours is clean and working, the top of that range is real money for something living in a drawer, and the postage costs you nothing. If it is cracked or the hinge has gone, the figure is a few dollars, and you may well decide that is not worth the trip. In that case send it to us anyway for free recycling. Now the thing worth knowing about this particular phone. The Galaxy Z Flip3 5G is where the Flip stopped being an experiment. Samsung made the cover screen four times larger than the generation before it, taking it to 1.9 inches, so you could finally read a message without opening the phone. And it was the first Flip with a water resistance rating, IPX8.
Read that rating carefully, because the X is the point. IPX8 means it was tested for fresh water and not tested for dust at all. There is no dust number on a Galaxy Z Flip3 5G. And the part on a Flip that minds dust is the hinge, which is a mechanism with a gap in it that you open and close dozens of times a day, in pockets full of lint and grit.
So the hinge is what to test, and it is the difference between the top of our range and the bottom. Open the phone slowly and stop at about halfway. It should hold that angle with nothing holding it. If it sags shut or springs open, the hinge is worn, and a hinge that has stopped doing its job is a functionality issue, which on a Samsung means Faulty. Then listen as you open and close it. Grinding, catching or a gritty feel is a hinge with something in it. Faulty as well.
One thing that is not a fault on this phone: it does not close flat. A Galaxy Z Flip3 5G folds into a wedge with a visible gap, widest at the hinge. Samsung only changed that two generations later. So the gap when it is shut costs you nothing.
Neither does the crease. The line across the middle of the inner screen is where the display folds, it has been there since the day it was built, and Samsung calls it a normal characteristic of a device designed with a flexible display that does not affect the display's quality, lifespan or performance. Do not pick Faulty over it.
The last things, quickly. Any crack or chip is Faulty, and the inner folding screen counts the same as the little cover screen, the back and the lens covers. Burn-in on either panel is Faulty. So is anything else that has stopped working, a speaker, a button, a camera, the charging port. And a phone that will not power on we cannot buy at all, because we cannot test it or clear your data, though the free recycling offer still stands.

Depends entirely on the state of it, and the honest split is this. Working, tidy, nothing cracked: the top of our range is $40 and the postage costs you nothing, so it beats a drawer. Cracked, or a hinge that has gone: you are looking at a few dollars, and plenty of people decide that is not worth the effort.

The hinge, and there is a reason for it. This phone is rated IPX8, which means Samsung tested it for fresh water and did not give it a dust rating at all. The X in the middle is literally the absence of one. So the hinge, which is a moving mechanism with a gap in it, has spent five years opening and closing in pockets with no dust protection on paper.
It is also the part that gets used the most. You open a Flip every single time you want the phone, which is far more often than anyone opens a Fold.
Test it before you pick a grade. Open it slowly, stop halfway, let go: it should hold. Listen for grinding or catching. Check it opens fully and lies flat with the halves level. Any of those failing is a functionality issue, and on a Samsung a functionality issue is Faulty.
No. It folds into a wedge by design, with a gap widest at the hinge end, and that is how every one of them left the factory. Samsung did not change it until two generations later, when a redesigned hinge let the phone close completely and virtually removed the gap. So on this model the gap is worth nothing to your grade either way. What matters is whether the hinge holds an angle and moves cleanly.
No. Every folding phone has one, and Samsung says outright that the crease is a normal characteristic of a device designed with a flexible display and does not affect the display's quality, lifespan or performance. We grade it the same way, which is to say we do not grade it at all. Cracks are a different matter and you will know a crack when you see one.
You can, and it grades Faulty, whether the crack is in the inner folding screen, the 1.9 inch cover screen, the back or a camera lens cover. The inner screen is still a screen. Being straight about the number though: cracked at 128GB is $3 and at 256GB it is $5. Those are real prices we will honor, and they are also small enough that free recycling might suit you better. Yes, burn-in is Faulty on a Samsung. Check both panels, because this phone has two. Open a plain white image full screen on the 1.9 inch cover display, then on the inner one, and look at each in a dim room from a slight angle. A ghosted clock, a status bar, a keyboard outline, anything showing through the white is burn-in. On a phone this old it is worth genuinely looking rather than assuming.
The two are near enough identical to look at, same 1.9 inch cover screen and same 6.7 inch inner screen, so use the model number. Settings, About phone, Model number. SM-F711U or SM-F711U1 is a Galaxy Z Flip3 5G. SM-F721U or SM-F721U1 is the Galaxy Z Flip4. A quick shortcut: if it is 512GB it is definitely a Flip4, because the Flip3 was never sold at that size. The Galaxy Z Flip4 page pays more, so it is worth thirty seconds to be sure.
No. Samsung phones have no 80 percent battery rule with us and there is no battery health screen to go looking for. A five year old phone with a battery that needs charging twice a day is not Faulty for that reason alone. It only becomes Faulty if the battery has genuinely stopped working, and then the same rule catches it as everything else that has stopped working.
Your fingernail. Run it across the lid, the frame and the back. If it glides over the marks, Average. If it catches on them, Fair, which is heavy wear you can feel with nothing cracked or chipped. On a Flip this age start at the hinge end of the frame and the outer edge of the lid, because that is where a phone that has been opened thousands of times shows it first. Anything actually broken or cracked skips both and goes to Faulty.
Yes. Choose your network in the quote box rather than picking Unlocked, because those are priced separately and the table above is the unlocked one. A network lock does not stop anything. Blacklisted, reported lost or stolen, or blocked by a carrier for non-payment does stop it, and those are different things.
Not with a balance on it. A phone under an installment plan or a lease is under a financial obligation, and we do not purchase devices under financial obligations. On a 2021 phone this is usually long since finished, but check with your carrier if you are unsure.
No. A Google account lock, an FRP lock or a tripped Knox counter means nobody but you can set the phone up, so there is no grade we can put on it. Blacklisted and stolen phones are the same answer. The fix takes a minute and has to happen before it ships: remove your Google account from the phone, then run the factory reset, in that order.
Settings, Accounts and backup, Manage accounts, and remove your Google account. Then Settings, General management, Reset, Factory data reset. That order is what clears the FRP lock.
