Google's answer was that the gap is a normal part of the design and has no effect on the water and dust resistance or the functionality of the phone. We treat it the same way. A visible gap at the screen edge is not a crack, not a chip and not a fault, so it does not push your Pixel 5 down a grade and it certainly does not make it Faulty.

Touch the back. The Pixel 5 is aluminum under its coating and feels cold. The Pixel 4a 5G is plastic and does not. Then check the top edge: the Pixel 4a 5G has a headphone jack, the Pixel 5 has none.
