No, and this one is worth knowing because it costs people a grade for nothing. The Pixel 3 came with 4GB of memory and a setting that was too quick to close whatever was running behind what you were doing. Music stopped when you opened the camera. Tabs reloaded when you switched back. Google fixed it in the December 2018 update.

Update the phone and it behaves. Old software is not a fault, and we do not grade it as one.

Anything on it that does not work. A button that no longer clicks, a speaker that buzzes, a camera app that crashes every time, a phone that restarts by itself, a charging port that only holds the cable at one angle. There is no list to memorize. If a part of the phone has stopped doing its job, choose Faulty. Cracks, chips and burn-in count as well, even when everything works perfectly.

Yes. Any crack or chip anywhere, front glass, back glass or the camera glass, moves it to Faulty. That is a price and not a refusal: $2 for a 64GB and $2 for a 128GB. Choose Faulty when you quote and nothing changes when it gets here.

Look at the top of the screen. The Pixel 3 XL has a deep notch cut into it for the front cameras. The Pixel 3 has no notch, just a plain bar above the screen with a speaker in it. The XL is also much bigger, 6.3 inches against 5.5. If yours has the notch, the Pixel 3 XL page carries its own prices.

It grades Faulty. This screen is OLED, and OLED wears wherever the same image sits still for years, so on a Pixel 3 that means the clock, the battery icon and the navigation buttons along the bottom. Check it in a dim room: brightness all the way up, a plain white image filling the screen, then look for a faint ghost of the status bar. Two things that are not burn-in and cost you nothing: one stuck pixel, and the color shifting slightly when you tilt the phone.

No. There is no battery health rule on any Android phone we buy, so do not go looking for a percentage in Settings. The only way the battery touches your grade is if it has genuinely stopped working, and that falls under the same rule as everything else that does not work.

Light wear that disappears at arm's length. Hold it at reading distance in daylight, and if the screen and the glass back look clean from there, that is Good. Average is light wear you cannot feel with a fingernail. Fair is heavy wear you can feel, with no cracks or chips anywhere. Flawless means no marks at all, which on a phone this old is rare enough to be worth checking twice before you claim it.

Yes. Carrier locked phones are bought, you just choose the carrier at the quote step instead of unlocked. On this model unlocked pays the most at every grade and both storage sizes, so if it is already free of a carrier, say so. What we cannot buy is a phone locked to somebody's Google account, which is a completely different lock.

Then it comes back to you. A Pixel that still has an account attached shows up FRP locked after a reset, and an FRP locked phone cannot be checked, wiped or resold, so we cannot put a price on it at any grade. Remove the account first, then factory reset: Settings, System, Reset options, Erase all data. We run our own Department of Defense grade wipe when it arrives, but yours has to come off before it leaves.

Not while there is a balance on it. A phone on an installment plan or a lease belongs to that plan until it is settled, and we do not purchase devices under financial obligations. Clear it, own it outright, then quote it and nothing else about the process changes.

Almost never on a phone this old, and most of the time they will not take it at all. What a carrier offers is credit spread over 24 or 36 months against a new line, which is not cash and not yours to spend anywhere else. Our Buyback price is cash, it is held for 14 days once you accept it, and it goes out the same day the phone clears inspection.

Keep them. Nothing is required in the box on a Pixel 3, and nothing in the box adds a dollar to the price. Send the phone on its own, padded. Anything else you post with it we just have to store and mail back to you.

Four ways, and you choose at the end. A gift card is emailed and works out about 3 percent better than the rest, because the brands add a bonus on top. PayPal is instant, with PayPal taking their 2.99 percent fee out of it. A bank transfer takes 2 to 4 days, a mailed check takes 3 to 5. All four leave the same day your phone clears inspection. The one exception is a sealed Brand New phone, which is paid through PayPal only.

It is a few dollars, and we are not going to dress that up. What it has going for it is that the shipping costs you nothing, the quote takes a minute, and the phone is sitting in a drawer losing a little more every month it stays there. If it turns out to be too far gone to carry a price, recycling is free as well and we wipe it either way. Both of those beat the drawer.
