No. Leave it alone.

That layer was bonded to the inner display at the factory and it is not a normal stick-on protector. Samsung's own advice is that it does not recommend or authorize owners removing it and that removal should be done by a service center. People pull them off anyway, and a fair share of them take a piece of the display's top layer with it. That turns a phone with a scruffy film into a phone with a ruined panel, which is the difference between the Good row and the Faulty row.

Send it exactly as it is. A peeling film costs you nothing here.

Not by itself. We grade the display, not the film on top of it. If the panel underneath is intact and the whole screen still answers your finger, the phone grades on its cosmetics like any other. What does lower the grade is damage the film is hiding: a crack, a dead patch or an area that has stopped lighting up properly. Those are Faulty whether there is a film over them or not.

Put a plain white image on the inner screen at full brightness and tilt the phone slowly from side to side. A lifted or bubbled protector looks silvery with a soft rainbow edge, and the shape shifts as the angle changes because you are seeing light trapped between two layers. A crack in the panel stays exactly where it is no matter how you tilt, usually has fine branches coming off it, and is often visible as a dark line with the screen off. If you are still unsure, send it in and let us make the call. We tell you what we found before anything is final.

Please do not. A third party film over the factory layer makes it harder for us to see the panel and it will come off here anyway. The same goes for peeling one on to tidy the phone up. Send it as it is, film and all, and let the grade be about the phone.

Yes. A crack or a chip on the inner panel, the cover screen, the back or a lens cover grades Faulty, and Faulty is still a payment. A 256GB pays $16 and a 1TB pays $19. Choose Faulty at the quote step, post it, and the number does not change on us.

Hold it out at arm's length in daylight. If you cannot pick out any marks from there, it is Good. Up close there may well be fine scuffs on the frame or the cover glass, and that is fine, Good allows for them. Once the wear is obvious from arm's length you are in Average, and once you can feel it with a fingernail you are in Fair. Cracks, chips, burn-in and anything that has stopped working skip the whole scale and go to Faulty.

No. Samsung calls the crease a normal characteristic of the folding design rather than a defect, and we treat it the same way. It costs you nothing.

Look at the main camera. The Fold4 has a 50MP wide lens and the Fold3 has a 12MP one, so the Fold4's camera bump is visibly the bigger of the two. Probably not, and this is worth knowing before you grade yourself down. Samsung quotes two folded thicknesses for the Fold4, 15.8 mm at the hinge and 14.2 mm at the open edge, so the phone is meant to sit slightly wedged when shut, and Samsung's care guidance says a slight gap at the edges when folded is normal. What is not normal is halves that will not meet at all, a corner you can lift, or a hinge that grinds, catches or refuses to hold the angle you set. Those are functionality issues and they grade Faulty.

No. The Fold4 supports the S Pen Fold Edition but it was sold separately and it was never in the box, so it is not part of what we are buying. That is different from a Galaxy S Ultra, where a missing S Pen drops the phone straight to Faulty. Keep the pen, the case and the charger.

Burn-in matters and battery percentage does not. Both Fold4 screens are OLED, so check the 7.6-inch inner one and the 6.2-inch cover one separately with a white image at full brightness in a dim room, looking for a ghost of the clock or the keyboard. Burn-in on either grades Faulty. Battery is the opposite story: Samsung phones have no percentage rule here, no health screen to read and nothing to prove. A battery only affects your grade if it has genuinely stopped working, and that falls under the same rule as any other failure.
