The tablet grades Faulty. The pen shipped in the box with every Galaxy Tab S6, so it is part of what we are buying rather than an accessory, and that rule does not bend for a tablet in otherwise perfect condition.

Before you accept that, look properly. The pen holds on with a magnet in the groove on the back, which is a good place to store it and a poor place to keep it on a long drive. Car seats, bags, the gap down the side of a sofa, and the pen loop on a Book Cover are where these turn up. A found pen is worth more than anything else you could do in the next ten minutes.

It does, because on Samsung tablets any part that has stopped working makes the tablet Faulty. But test it properly before you write it off, since the reader on this model is under the glass and is fussy rather than fragile.

Take off any screen protector, clean the display, then delete your saved fingerprints in Settings, Biometrics and security. Register one finger again, slowly, letting it capture the whole print rather than a corner. Lock the tablet and unlock it three times. Working every time means nothing is wrong. Refusing to register at all, or only reading when you press hard in one exact spot, is a failed part and that is Faulty.

Use a camera, because your eyes adapt and a camera does not. Put a plain white image on the screen full screen, brightness up, in a dim room. Then take a photo of the screen with another phone and look at the photo rather than the tablet.

Faint shapes that are invisible in the room jump out in the photo: the status icons across the top, the row of on-screen buttons, the outline of a keyboard. Anything that stays fixed while the picture behind it changes is burn-in, and burn-in is Faulty on its own. Anything that fades within a second or two is an afterimage, which every AMOLED does and which costs you nothing at all.

The names are close and the prices are not. Put a registered finger in the middle of the screen: on a Galaxy Tab S6 the tablet unlocks from under the glass, because it has an in-screen reader. Yes. Any crack or chip anywhere puts the tablet in Faulty, and that is a price rather than a refusal. A 128GB in that state pays $11 and a 256GB pays $15. Tell us what is broken at the quote step and nothing changes when it reaches us. If the screen is so far gone that the tablet cannot be tested at all, we cannot buy it, but free recycling is always on the table.

Not by itself, and there is no percentage anywhere in this. Samsung tablets have no battery health rule with us, and the Galaxy Tab S6 does not display a health figure, so please do not go digging through Settings for one. Six years of charging shortens a battery and that is expected. What is not expected is a battery that has failed: shutting down at 40 percent, or refusing to run without the cable, is a part that has stopped working, so it grades Faulty.

It helps. Stick the pen to the groove on the back for half an hour before you box it, so we can pair it and test the buttons when it arrives rather than charging it ourselves. If the pen no longer holds a charge at all, still send it, and say so in the notes. A pen that will not charge is something we judge by hand and tell you about. A pen that is not in the box at all is the thing that costs you real money.

Carrier makes no difference. There is no carrier lock on a tablet, so a Tab S6 that ran on Verizon quotes the same as one that never had a SIM.

Accounts do matter, on every unit. Sign out of your Samsung account and your Google account before it ships, because a Google account lock, an FRP lock or a tripped Knox counter means we cannot buy the tablet at any grade. On a cellular Tab S6 there is one more requirement: the IMEI must be clean, so nothing reported lost or stolen and nothing carrier blocked. A WiFi Tab S6 has no IMEI at all, so that check does not exist for it.

Sign out of both accounts first, then reset. Settings, tap your name, sign out of your Samsung account. Settings, Accounts and backup, Manage accounts, remove your Google account. Settings, General management, Reset, Factory data reset. In that order, the tablet arrives here clean and unlocked. Our erase your device page has it step by step. It does not. The reset clears the tablet's own storage and leaves everything on the memory card exactly as it was. Pop the tray with a paperclip, take the card out, put the empty tray back in. We do not pay for memory cards, so a card left in the tray is a straight loss to you and a nuisance to us.

No. Accessories are not priced into a Buyback, so the Book Cover Keyboard, a folio case or the charger add nothing to your figure and only add ways for things to go missing in transit. The S Pen is the exception, and only because it came in the box in the first place. Tablet and pen, nothing else.

Ask them and compare properly. Carrier offers on a 2019 tablet tend to be bill credits released monthly over two or three years, tied to a line you have to keep open. Even where the headline figures look similar, one of them is spendable this month and the other is not.

Charge it for an hour first, since a tablet that has sat in a drawer for two years often looks dead and is not. If it still refuses, we cannot buy it. We cannot test it and, more to the point, we cannot clear your data off it, so we will not put a number on it. What we will do is recycle it free with a Department of Defense grade wipe, or send it back to you free. Your choice.
