An LG G8 ThinQ pays between $3 and $27. That is a small number and we are not going to dress it up. It is still money for something sitting in a drawer, and the postage costs you nothing.
Most people call it a trade-in. We call it a Buyback, and one difference is that we tell you the awkward things before you post the phone rather than after.
The G8 has no earpiece speaker. LG left it out and made the screen itself vibrate to produce the sound, which they called Crystal Sound OLED. It is the strangest thing about the phone and it gives you a ten second test: ring your own number from another phone, answer it, and hold the G8 to your ear the normal way. If you can hear the caller through the glass, that part is fine. If there is nothing, or a rattle, that is an audio fault, and any fault at all grades the phone Faulty.
Two more G8 oddities that are features, so they have to work. Hand ID unlocks the phone by reading the veins in your palm when you hold your hand above the screen. Air Motion lets you wave over the top of the phone to skip a track or take a screenshot. Open Settings and try both. If either has stopped responding, that is a functionality issue and the grade drops.
The G8 screen is an OLED, so it can hold a burned-in ghost of the status bar. Put a white image on full screen at high brightness and look. If a shadow of the clock or the icons is sitting in the glass, that is Faulty.
LG walked away from phones in 2021, so the G8 is near the end of a line that stopped. That has not made it worthless, and the numbers here are what we are paying today. We send a prepaid USPS label. Pull the microSD card out, remove your Google account and factory reset, then box the phone alone. No charger, no case, no box needed, because none of them change the price.
We test it by hand within 48 hours of arrival, including a call through the screen. Match your description and payment leaves that day by gift card, PayPal, bank transfer or check. Every phone gets a DoD-grade wipe, whether we buy it or recycle it.

Possibly, and it is worth testing carefully because this phone does it differently from every other phone. There is no earpiece grille above the screen. The display panel itself vibrates and the sound comes through the glass, so the whole top half of the screen is the speaker.
Ring your own number from another phone, answer, and hold the G8 against your ear as normal. Clear voice means the system works. Silence, crackling or a buzz means an audio fault, and an audio fault grades the phone Faulty. Try it before you quote so the grade you pick is the grade you get paid.
It does. Both of those run off the Z Camera above the screen, and both were sold as features of this phone, so a dead one is a functionality issue and puts the G8 in Faulty. Check Settings for the Hand ID and Air Motion entries, then try each. If the palm scan will not register at all, or the wave gestures do nothing, choose Faulty when you quote, which pays $3. Being slow or fussy is not the same as being dead; these features were fussy from launch.
Yes, at the Faulty grade. A crack or chip anywhere, front glass, back glass or a camera lens cover, is Faulty on its own, and it counts even when the phone still works perfectly. Choose Faulty at the quote step and the number is fixed. We are not going to renegotiate a phone you described honestly.
Flawless is no marks at all. Good is light wear you cannot see from arm's length. Average is wear you can see but cannot feel with a fingernail. Fair is wear you can feel, but nothing cracked. Faulty is any crack, any chip, screen burn-in, or anything on the phone that has stopped working. The G8 has a glass back, so give that the same fingernail test as the front.
Full screen white image, brightness right up, then look at the top strip and the bottom strip of the display. Burn-in appears as a permanent faint outline of the clock, the signal bars or the navigation buttons, and it does not move when you tilt the phone. If it is there, the grade is Faulty.
No. There is no battery percentage on this phone that we grade against and no health screen to hunt for. A battery only matters if it has failed outright, which is caught by the same rule that catches everything else: something on the phone does not work, so it is Faulty.
Worth checking, but two things usually decide it. Carrier offers are bill credit paid out over 24 or 36 months, and they normally require a new phone or a new line. Ours is cash, in whatever form you choose, paid the same day inspection clears. Also worth weighing against the drawer: a G8 kept in a drawer pays nothing and quietly loses value every month.
It does, and this page carries the live number rather than an old one. LG announced its exit in 2021, so there was never a G9 and there are no more software updates for the G8. Plenty of people still want one anyway, which is why a Brand New sealed unit is still worth $27 to us. What the exit does mean is that the phone will not receive newer Android versions, and it is fair to know that before you decide whether to keep it.
No. Nothing has to be in the box on this model. Accessories are not priced into any grade, so a charger or a case adds nothing to your payment. Take your microSD card out and post the phone by itself.
No on all three, and each for its own reason. A phone still signed in to a Google account cannot be set up by the next owner, so remove the account and factory reset before posting. Blacklisted, reported lost or stolen and carrier blocked phones cannot be bought at any grade. A phone that will not power on cannot be tested and your data cannot be cleared off it, so we will not price it, though we will recycle it free with a DoD-grade wipe or send it back free. A phone still on an installment plan needs paying off first, since we do not purchase devices under financial obligations.
