We’ve all been there. After checking our pockets, under the bed, in our cars, and around the office, we simply can’t find our phones. Having your phone lost—or worse, stolen—is no fun at all. Fortunately, however, a lot has changed since the days of flip phones when a lost phone meant it was basically gone forever. With Apple’s great technology, you can find your phone easily. Finding Your Lost iPhone

iPhone Call

This expression always goes through people’s minds as they are searching not just for lost iPhones, but anything. The problem naturally is where is that last place?  You can go old school and try to retrace your steps and think about where you’ve been that day. Also, try thinking about when was the last time you used your phone.

You can also try calling or messaging your phone to see if you can hear it ringing or if somebody may have already found it.

Ready to give up on these old fashioned techniques? Time to use some of Apple’s great technology.

Use Find My iPhone

Apple has already solved this problem for you. You can not only find your last iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and even Mac. Follow these steps:

  1. Login to your iCloud Account
  2. Select the Find My iPhone Device
  3. Locate your device

With Find My iPhone, you have a variety of options. You can use it to locate your device on a map down to within ten feet. You can also remotely lock it, play sounds, display messages or erase its data. You can also use Activation Lock to make sure nobody else tries to use your device—even if they’ve managed to completely restore/erase it.

You can now even use Siri and ask “help me find my iPhone” to get an understanding where your device might be.

Do note, however, you have to already have Find My iPhone enabled before you lose your device for this to work.

You may or may not have noticed, but many apps actually use your location data for a variety of purposes. You can use this information to then get an approximate location of where data was last used. For example, you can sign into your Google Account to see the last time your account was accessed, from what type of device, and where. The same goes for a wide variety of other apps. These tools will not be as accurate as Find My iPhone but can be an excellent backup option if other strategies aren’t working for you.

Always Use Caution with Strangers

Sometimes answering the question “where is my iPhone?” is the easy part. You may have found it behind the couch or at your friend’s place. However, if someone you don’t know has your phone, you do need to be careful. Most people are friendly and happy to help out. But others might be looking for a reward or trying to trap you. If you think your phone has been stolen, be sure to contact your local authorities. They should be able to help you retrieve your phone safely under those circumstances.
