If you own a Samsung Galaxy, then you know that it’s a high-end smartphone. Most of those who buy it find it to be well worth the money. Galaxies seldom have serious problems as long as you take good care of them, but occasionally, any electronic device can act up a little.
For instance, maybe you’re finding that your Galaxy will not turn on. If so, then you’ll need to come up with a solution quickly, or you won’t be able to use the phone for calls, texting, or anything else. Let’s talk about what might be causing the issue and what you can do about it.
Why Might Your Samsung Galaxy Not Be Turning On?
If your Samsung Galaxy does not turn on, then there could be several different reasons for it. It might need a simple reset because of a software glitch. The phone might need to be charged, or it could be that the battery has completely died. The phone might have come into contact with water or been damaged in some other way. Any of those are potentially the reason that black screen is staring at you. But what can you do about it?
Start by Charging Your Samsung Galaxy
The simplest fix is the first one that you should try, and that would be charging the phone. Has it been some time since you have used your Galaxy? If so, then the battery might have worn itself all the way down. Plugging it into a wall outlet would be preferable here, or you could use a USB cable to connect the device to a laptop or desktop as well.
Within about 15 minutes of plugging in your Galaxy, you should see the Samsung logo on the screen. If this happens, then you’ll know it was just the battery, and there is no more serious issue. If the logo is not showing up, then go on to the next fix.
Next, Try Rebooting the Galaxy in Safe Mode
Sometimes, the software that you are running on your Galaxy is not compatible with some of the apps that you might have on there. Programs and apps that you download onto the phone that have a bad reputation can sometimes lead to problems like the one you are experiencing. The phone lagging or even crashing are both possible. Do you usually use your phone in Safe Mode? If so, and the overall performance is not affected, then that could be an indication that a third-party program is to blame.
Press and hold your Power button on the right-hand side of the phone until the Samsung logo appears on the screen to put the device in Safe Mode. When the logo appears, let go of the Power button and hold down the Volume button on the upper left-hand side. The device should power on. You’ll see the Home screen, and at the bottom, you will see Safe Mode.
The Soft Reset of the Galaxy Might Get It Working Again
It is a simple matter to try a soft reset of the Galaxy, but that might get it working again. You must press and hold your Power and Volume buttons down simultaneously for about 10 seconds. This will hopefully reboot the device.
Next, Try a Hard Reset
Next up would be a hard reset attempt if the soft one didn’t work. The hard reset is a forced restart of the phone. It is more jarring, but it might get the device to respond if nothing else has worked yet.
To execute a hard reset, you’ll have to push and hold down the Power and Side buttons for 10 seconds. Release them, and then quickly hold them down for an additional 10 seconds. This should momentarily disconnect the battery and do a forced restore. Many times, this will bring an inoperative Galaxy back to life.
You Can Also Try Rebooting the Galaxy in Recovery Mode
If you still can’t get the Galaxy to turn on, then the next thing to try would be rebooting the device while it is in recovery mode.
- Turn off your phone. This is, of course, unnecessary if you can’t get it to turn on in the first place.
- Press and hold down your Volume Up key and the Bixby key, and then hold down the Power key.
- You should see the Samsung logo come up. When it does, release all the keys. You will see an installing system update. Next, the system recovery menu will appear with some different options on it.
- Press and hold down your Volume Down key to wipe the cache partition.
- Press the Power key.
- Press and hold down your Volume Down key to select Yes, then press the Power key again.
- The wipe partition should occur. Once it’s done, press your Power key one more time to restart the phone.
What if Nothing Has Worked for the Galaxy Up to this Point?
If you have gotten to this point and you still can’t get the Galaxy to respond or turn on, then it seems likely that there is something going on with its hardware. If the phone fell in some water, for example, then that is almost certainly what is causing its lack of responsiveness. If you dropped it or otherwise handled it roughly, that might be what has caused it to go dead. It could also be that the battery is at the end of its useable life.
Hardware issues are not something that you will be able to fix on your own. You will need to take the device to the Samsung store from which you bought it. If you can’t get back to that specific location, then any other Samsung store will do.
If the Galaxy is still under warranty, then you should be able to get it repaired for free, unless the store employees determine that you did something to it which has voided that warranty. It’s best not to open up the phone and tinker with it so you can’t be accused of causing whatever has gone wrong. Leaving it up to the professionals is definitely the way to go here, even if you consider yourself to be technologically-inclined.
Even if the phone is no longer under warranty, then you can still get it fixed. It’s going to cost you money to do it, though. In that event, you should see how much the repair costs. If the cost of getting the phone fixed is close to the price of getting a brand-new one, then it might make financial sense to get it replaced entirely.
